Default Add safemode with at the boot menu

Right click My Computer->properties->advanced->settings (under startup and recovery)->edit then you will find like this :

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Now copy the following line and paste it below the above shown line :

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Safe Mode" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect/safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog.

ron no chance of hanging in while going to safemode, but you should wait some more time for the system to start in safe mode, for my old system it used to take 10 min to go to safe mode, all the lines of matter will be constant on the screen for some time this does not mean that cpu is hanging, also if there was a problem with one of your hardware device it will takes this much of time to login to safemode
