I simply use VIRTUALDUB MOD. Its free. And its size is only about 1.5 MB.

i converted a 315 MB video from *.dat format to XVID avi, it took about 10 minutes. Converting to DIVX would probably take the same amount of time.

i didn't even see the tutorial once. but i referred VIRTUALDUB as i thought that it is the best program to convert videos into *.avi format. see http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52424 for more about virtualdub
