Default Windows Vista boots into Normal Mode but that there are still problems with Windows.


Open the Reliability Monitor.

To open the Reliability Monitor, perform the following steps:

Click the Start button and type rel in the search box.
Reliability and Performance Monitor appears in the Start Menu above.
Click Reliability and Performance Monitor.
The Reliability and Performance Monitor window appears.
Click Reliability Monitor in the left-hand side of the window.
The Reliability Monitor appears in the right-hand side of the window

Note any red circles with a white X in the graph and determine which category they are in.

Are there any hardware failures in the Reliability and Performance Monitor?
NOTE: The following steps require Reliability and Performance Monitor to be open.

Look in the Reliability Monitor graph for the icon in the Hardware Failures category
Does Reliability Monitor indicate a Hard Drive or Memory Failure?
Determine if the hardware error is related the hard drive or memory.
If Hard drive error,then troubleshoot the Hard Drive.(Download tools like seatools from Seagate support and run diags by booting from the cd)
If Memory error,then troubleshoot the memory by using 1 card at a time and then by putting then in different slots.

OR

Are there any Windows Failures in the Reliability and Performance Monitor?

NOTE: The following steps require Reliability and Performance Monitor to be open.

Look in the Reliability Monitor graph for the icon in the Windows Failures category
Are there any Application Failures in Reliability Monitor?

NOTE:The following steps require Reliability and Performance Monitor to be open.

Look in the Reliability Monitor graph for the icon in the Application Failures category
Check for new solutions in Windows Vista.
To check for solutions, perform the following steps:
Click the Start button and click Control Panel.
The Control Panel window appears.
Click System and Maintenance.
The System and Maintenance window appears.
Click Check for new solutions under Problem Reports and Solutions.
The Problem Reports and Solutions window appears.
Install any available solutions.

Determine if the failure correlates with a Software (Un)Install.
To determine if the failure correlates with a Software (Un)Install, perform the following steps:

NOTE:These steps will be performed in the Reliability Monitor, which was opened previously.
Locate the failure in the graph.
If there is an "i" above the failure, double-click it.
Otherwise, double-click the first "i" that preceeds the failure.

Determine whether applications or drivers were installed that coincide with the failure.
Is the operating system failure resulting in Blue Screen error messages?
To determine if the operating system failure resulted in a Blue Screen error message, perform the following steps:
Double-click the x that corresponds to the operating system failure and read the Failure Detail.
Note whether a STOP error message was recorded.
