Animation courses

I am a BCOM Student living in Mumbai....
I am interested in pursuing animation courses... but am quite unsure about what kind of courses are available and which is the best course/institution....
Can anyone around here provide me with details?

if you can, then join frameboxx, it has some very good specialisation programmes. MAAC is decent but courses at frameboxx are more industry oriented. MAAC is well known only because it is old. Frameboxx opened only at the begining of this year but its courses are better. If you've completed your b.com, i advise you to join a shorter 6months-1yr course that has 1 or 2 softwares.theres no use learning all the softwares that these institutes teach because in the end you'll have to specialise in one single department and prepare a portfolio/showreel that showcases your best work in that particular department.during interview,the animation studios will ask you questions from your field & wont even ask you how many softwares you know.try to choose a course that has- basic sketching/drawing, photoshop, maya(it is preferred over max in studios) & any one compositing/editing software like after effects.the combination of these softwares will effectively guide you through the world of animation/visual effects & will be enough for you to prepare your showreel.

If you are really interested, and if you can afford I will suggest you to go outside India
so that you will get good training and latest tools to work with. Indian Animation Training, especially the private players like the names mentioned above, is below par and they have just business intentions. Sheridan (Canada) and CalArts(California) are two best institutes.
For Techies, Texas A and M offers visualization programs. Bournmouthe university UK too have good programs. For more info you can google these names.

In India The better ones are those in NID and IDC.

yes..actually you are right..the indian animation institutes are really lagging behind their western counterparts...students of ringling school of art and design, vancouver film school etc have produced professional quality in their projects..its not that the students are more talented..the instructors know exactly what to teach & how to teach...and yes NID & IDC are better than all other institutes in india...to get into any of these one has to appear for the combined entrance examination for design(CEED)..they offer post graduate diploma..meaning you have to be atleast a graduate.

And thats coming from a current maac student.I have learned all from internet.Dont waste your money on these cr@ppy so called institutes.

yeah right...there are just so many websites on 3d..what one can do is buy a maya/max (whatever software it is) bible..follow its lessons & for advanced learning use the internet..besides gnomon tutorials, digital-tutors are very good resources for someone willing to learn..

BTW, which MAAC centre are you in?

its the same story everywhere is it?, ... very few teaches well, most of them are here to loot money in the name of training .

its better if you can get the training done from someone in the industry...pay them for a month and learn.

the best place to do this is frm TheArtInstitute in USA...it would cost you nearly $81K for the full tution fee...chk thr site n have an online talk or chat

I had been to an animation course once. Macromedia Flash MX. Cost me Rs. 500 for three months quickie course, and taught me quite a lot. But sadly, I forgot most of it by now since I don't have a 30K license for flash.

Maac is confusing.
I wanna do CE(compositing editing) course there.
Their website giving info that the course covers software like -premier, after effects, combustion. while their brochure shows more softwares like avid,FCP,and Flame..

The institute says acording to website.. course fee is 94k.
I am at orissa branch.

Can anyone from maac clarify the confusion ?

Truth is far behind........I m from South Ex. Delhi,education hub holding all institutes..I scratched really hard to get real picture of training institutes.This area consists of around 10-15 total institutes for grabbing you.when I first inquired MAAC, one of most heard name, the counselor told in a very juicy manner,but when I discussed with the students learning there told me" Bro don't come in this hell, faculty keep changing and deep tutors are less here, n still they are stuck between software kicks,instead of providing industry oriented skills". This shocked me really hard as I much listened their name. Later on, one of my friend is learning from ARENA n he is saying OK.They have been struggling with historical graphic designing. I was really impressed by two institutes, one PICASSO ANIMATION,tied up with a Canadian Animation University with good environment and high focus on 3D and second one AAG from Bangalore with focus on gaming industry and providing you degree too. After doing a lot of research, I came to a conclusion that most of institutes in Delhi are not industry focussed and you have to completely move on to Mumbai to get your hands dirty.So decided to wait me over few months to head on and I am trying for some foreign places to be a serious animator. As I already built up myself to a level in 2d and Flash with Bible on my own. you really need to homework hard if u wana jump in this field.

the best way to learn animation is to catch hold of someone working in the industry..go on Saturdays and Sundays.
certification don't hold a value here... and the people working in the industry will know what would one need to get in to the industry...learn only that , its sooo different from the institutes...don't get cheated ,
and its a known fact "your learning starts only when you start working in an industry".

B.Sc in Animation and Multimedia from that only goverment college that offers this course "Birla Institue of Technology".The courses are available at Jaipur,Rajasthan and at Noida,Delhi.
