It's still an engineering sample. It's set to be released by April 09.

It indeed looks impressive. 3.4GHz on stock cooling from base 2.3GHz is awssome, especially for an engineering sample. But unless it brings with it serious per-clock performance boosts, it may easily loose to Intel.

Take a look at the AMD vs Intel story from this angle: each time Intel brings some new CPU, AMD is bringing something new a month later which manages to beat Intel's older CPU. Phenom X4 9950 beats C2Q Q6600 while it can't even touch pwnryn quads. Barcelona beats Clovertown but can't touch harpertown. And now Deneb beats Penryn but its actual competition is going to be nehalem.

This is not too impressive. But at the same time, it feels great to see that AMD is starting to regain control over its processors and its getting back to its old overclocking hero status.

@ the end of 2009 summer ATI has surprise for the gamer that they are going to launch the ultimate graphics card before nvidia launchs --------- thus the victory of 4850 & 4870 .... they are going to launch another affordable for all gamers in the price and performance ----- INTEL C2D E8500 is 45nm so the games run fast --- if AMD launchs the QUAD 45nm means it beats every proc of INTEL on the core2quads & core2duo ------- i cant wait to see this AMD is the king ; cause they do price difference which the buyers affordable to buy the latest processor at the good price for value ---------- I LOVE AMD---

observe that cpu-z pic more carefully....it sais 1.568 vcore for 3.4Ghz...now tats seems alot ... And it doesn look like the denebs are going to beat the nehalems and considering the nehalem is going to be out 6 months before deneb intel are still going to be dominating and it does 1M in super pi in 20s..which doesnt impress
