Default BSNL landline connection for just Rs 20 in rural UP

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has come up with a new scheme in which landline connection is available at monthly installments of Rs.20 exclusively for people living in rural parts of Uttar Pradesh.

People can avail this facility either by paying Rs 200 at one go or by depositing Rs.20 per month. Under this scheme, the company offers 20 free calls per month to its subscribers.

First of all, I don't understand why it is a horrible news. I think it is a very good move by BSNL. A large part of people in villages are still unconnected to the greater world. They will progress only when this connection is made. So, even if it means giving connection for free, so be it.

As for urban people, there are already lots of choices in terms of mobiles etc. Also, do u really think urban ppl cant pay the current charges for getting a connection. Maybe for some BPL families, it would be ok to give, but given the state of corruption in India, it would be difficult to separate the grain from the chaff.

Subsidy should be for those who need it, and not otherwise.
