Microsoft Takes Additional Steps in Implementing Interoperability Principles

"Microsoft is implementing four new interoperability principles and corresponding actions across its high-volume business products: (1) ensuring open connections; (2) promoting data portability; (3) enhancing support for industry standards; and (4) fostering more open engagement with customers and the industry, including open source communities," the Redmond giant stated.

But as a part of the interoperability initiative, the company is also providing additional protocol documentation, on top of what it is offering for the Office Suite. Protocol resources are available for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, SharePoint Products and Technologies, and Microsoft SQL Server.

As a developer, you now have full access to information about protocols, binary file formats, and other specifications for these products that can be used to create solutions. In the Open Specifications section you can find:

1. Protocol documentation for Windows client and Windows Server covered by the MCPP and WSPP licensing programs, made available pursuant to the Consent Decree and the European Commission's 2004 Decision, together with protocol documentation for Application Services and the .NET Framework.
2. Protocol documentation for Office 2007, Exchange Server 2007 to Microsoft Outlook 2007, Office SharePoint Server 2007, and SQL Server 2005.
3. Format documentation for the Office Binary File formats.
4. Documentation for certain Microsoft computer languages that are implemented by Microsoft products.

The Open Specifications include all of this documentation, which may now be accessed without charge and without restriction on this MSDN Library.
