A good news for all those Windows XP users out there. As Indyan rightly pointed out that atm upgrading to Vista is not that attractive option, coz XP is useful and efficient enough to satisfy an avg Joe's needs. I have seen people still using 98 on old hardware just because they dont find the need to upgrade to XP let alone Vista.

Maybe in the coming years, when HighEnd PCs as available today are more common and Vista is patched enough to offer decent performance, the acceptability may rise. Or who knows, If Windows 7 is released with all these desired characteristics, many would simply forget Vista

No extra stuff, no bloat. Only gaming performance. And ofcourse, since the use won't be anything ecept gaming, price must also be very less.
Was the above reply supposed to be funny? Do you seriously believe that there is a "so-called" gaming os which is available for lower prices?

As for Vista's strong point on gaming, its a joke really. By premium games, they mean DirectX 10. And only vista's premium editions support this. So obviously only these OSes can run those games well.
Oh really? Ever heard of something called "Games for windows" ? Heard that latest games like Halo2, Ghost Recon 2 etc were realeased for Vista? If not, then i would suggest you to search of vista compatiable games on net and you would certainly find a long list.

Unfortunately, the Vista Home Basic edition is just TOO basic. It lacks DirectX. While at the same time, Windows XP Home sold a lot because it had everything families needed - it could play the latest games, it could ensure that there were not too many restrictions between users, since home use didn't need that, it was sleek and fast.
Are you trying to joke here? If yes, then let me tell you that its not working. Vista supports DX10 if you are unaware sir. And here is the list of Directx 10 Games WHICH ARE SUPPORTED BY VISTA. Go read

Giving support to XP is a good decision by microsoft.....they are not selling more copies of XP, just ensuring that the customers (business / personal) who already bought XP get the benifit. Now why are people jumping on this again ?
