Cool Intel Processor Price Cuts & Newer Models in Q3 2008

Source

Quote:
Intel is planning to cut desktop CPU prices in the third quarter this year, along with the launch of more quad-core and dual-core models, according to sources at motherboard makers.

The performance-level Core 2 Quad Q9650 with a core frequency of 3GHz will launch priced at US$530 in thousand-unit tray quantities, while the Core 2 Quad Q9550 will drop around 40% from its original price of US$530 to US$316.

The Core 2 Quad 9450, currently priced at US$316, will be phased out of the market to be replaced by the Core 2 Quad 9400 at 2.66GHz and a price of US$266. The Core 2 Quad Q9300 and Q6700 will both be phased out at the same time too, leaving the Q6600 as the only 65nm quad-core CPU left in Intel's lineup, and which will drop from US$224 to US$203.

For dual-core CPUs, Intel will launch the Core 2 Duo E8600 at 3.33GHz and US$266, and will phase out the Core 2 Duo E8300. The company will also drop pricing for the Core 2 Duo E8500 and E8400 from US$266 and US$183 to US$183 and US$163, respectively.

Intel will also add the Core 2 Duo E7300 at 2.66GHz and US$133 to its entry-level line and to drop the price of its Core 2 Duo E7200 from US$133 to US$113.
With the updated pricing, motherboard makers and channel vendors both expect increased demand in the third quarter, with motherboard makers predicting an average sequential growth of 15% in third-quarter revenues.
Here is the summary of the same:
------------------------------------------------------------
Newer / Price Cut Core 2 Quad Processors
Processor - Speed - Current Price - Newer Q3 Price
Q9550 - 2.80 GHz - $530 - $316
Q9400 - 2.66 GHz - NA - $266
Q6600 - 2.40 GHz - $224 - $203

To be Phased Out Core 2 Quad Processors
Q9450
Q9300
Q6700

------------------------------------------------------------

Newer / Price Cut Core 2 Duo Processors
Processor - Speed - Current Price - Newer Q3 Price
E8600 - 3.33 GHz - NA - US$266
E8500 - 3.16 GHz - $266 - $183
E8400 - 3.00 GHz - $183 - $163
E7300 - 2.66 GHz - NA - $133
E7200 - 2.53 GHz - $133 - $113

To be Phased Out Core 2 Duo Processors
E8300

------------------------------------------------------------

I don't understand why they are phasing out the 12MB Q9450 & replacing it with the 6MB Q9400 one.

sucks
this still can't make a 25k PC.
Processor only takes away 6-7k the E7200 ...
since 133 is 5k and around... in India it will be 7k

Cool, I guess it's worth upgrading to this CPU instead of a C2D W8200.

What I have planned right now is that by the end of this year I will upgrade my CPU to one with SSE4 (huge perfromance boost in workstation apps). E7200 looks nice enough. I just hope it will install on my DG31PR motherboard.

The Q9450 just offers too much value for money. I mean for 13.5k, 12MB cache, 2.67GHz, 1333 Mhz FSB, Intel was giving away too much. These people are just playing the game. after all they have no competition right now. So all they are doing are looting us.

I also heard of their plans to launch Wolfdale-2M series.

This includes Core 2 Duo 5xxx with 2MB of cache and FSB 1066 MHz.
I only came to know that the Core 2 Duo E5200 would be with 2.33-2.53 GHz speed.

Yes, it will work perfectly.
DG31PR is good mobo but lacks overclocking ability. its for people who does not need to overclock.
cheap & sweet

Dude, you currently have E6xxx CPU right ?
Well, E7xxx does not support intel virtualisation technology.
Meaning no 64bit virtual PCs for you.
Are you OK with that ?
If so, upgrade away, since E7200 and other 45nm processors DO support P35 chipset. (G31 is a toned down version of P35 plus 3100 gpu).

AND, btw, have you ever considered overclocking as an option for your current setup ? If I remember right, there is this software from ATI for ATI card owners which functions similar to nTune allowing an easy OC.
