Thumbs up Dell Launches XPS M1730(Baby Alienware)

Dell has officially made available the XPS M1730 portable gaming laptop in India, for gamers who want to experience the best in mobile gaming. M1730 also happens to be first in many respects. It’s the first laptop to incorporate AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology and Logitech’s GamePanel LCD display. The PhysX processor helps deliver realistic movement and environmental interaction at incredible speeds without degrading overall performance. The GamePanel LCD allows gamers to view game stats, create new macros and track important system information without leaving the game. The XPS M1730 delivers incredible mobile gaming performance with a Intel C2D T8300 (upgradable to a Core 2 Xtreme X9000). On the gaming front, it sports dual NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT GPUs with 256MB VRAM in SLI mode which helps to deliver stunning DirectX 10 graphics. It can also be configured with dual Nvidia 8800M GTX GPUs with 512 MB GDDR3 RAM in SLI.
Designed specifically for the gaming community and dubbed “the beast” by the Dell development team, the new notebook features an aggressive, brawny design that can be personalized with three color accent choices: Crimson Red, Sapphire Blue & Smoke Grey.

Its price starts at 99k[dell site] in India with the default config. Options like 1920*1200 17" display, 8700GT SLI, 9 cell battery etc are the minimum option for this beast.
I wonder y they arent choosing 9600GT SLI instead of 8800GTX SLI?
It wud perform similar, consume mess power and still be cheaper.

its actually gud vgm is it comes for 87k. coz it has T8300, 4G ram, 8700MGT SLI, 9 cell battery, 17" HD display, Ageia Physics card etc. It wud cost min of 1.5 lac for a similar config alenware.
But its main drawback is 3.8KG weight. And it cud go higher depending on config.
Even at 2.75KG, i find my lappy bit heavy to carry on bag.

I think the 1730 is not for heavy mobility , but like if u wanna take it somewhere u can take it easily , like for a gamin party , but otherwise a desktop replacement in a much smaller form factor .

AWSSOME

This thing beats the crap out of Asus Lambourghini and MacBook Pro hands down in that case.

Any laptop with this configuration at 87k is a steal dude !

Are you 100% sure of the price range ?

Gaming laptops don't mind weight, because they are not meant to be carried around and have them stolen by some thief.

This config would be an excellent Desktop Replacement.

NOTE: ALL THIS TRUE ONLY IF THE PRICE IS 87 LAKHS.

update: this baby is 1 lakh.

not unless I do really well in my 2009 set of examinations.

I just put here a configuration that has maximum VFM and power yet it avoids unnessary things. For example, replace the t8300 by the next one in the list (a certain T9x00) which is just 3.5k costlier but has twice the cache and moderately higher processing speed.

I think all the text did not get copied.

well, I am in my 12th and my dad has promised the best Dell XPS if I pass the IIT-JEE, AIEEE or KVPY examination, with the price cap going down in the three as IIT >> AIEEE = KVPY

I got my Toshiba Satellite x205-s9800 for around Rs.56000 ($ 1400) last february. Now it is available on amazon at around Rs.48000 (around $1200). It has a C2D 1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 8700M GT with 512MB memory, 17" bright widescreen display, vista home premium, wireless, plus all the standard features of a laptop. It plays Crysis smoothly at 1280X800. Actually I had wanted to buy the P6831-FX from Gateway (steal at around Rs.48000, or $1200). It had the same config as the Toshiba except for the 8800M GTX with 512MB RAM and 3GB RAM!!! It was selling like hot cakes but I could not get mine from Bestbuy.

And the M1730 was there since the latter half of 2007 in the US, Dell India is late in bringing this one to India. I had considered the M1730 too while buying mine but withdrew seeing the around $2000 price tag.

^^Well, when I was in the US, I bought most of the electronics from amazon. I did not get the Gateway due to non-availability both in the store and online.

Any products can be shipped to your doorstep if you want from newegg. So, if you need anything, Just PM the product and you'll get the price for door delivery.

I am waiting for the next nvidia mobile high end.when will it come? within 6 months(most probably after 12 months). Then it should be able to play crysis at high quality at 1600x and by that time hybrid sli would have become mature enough to post impressive battery life while not gaming.Sli is too power hungry for laptops currently.Naturally noone expects them to last long.probably intended as a portable pc than laptop.

By that time, Crysis 2 will out and you will be wanting to play that @ 1600*1200 at high settings/.

Don't think that Crysis 2(if it comes out so soon) would be anywhere near resource hungry as Crysis considering the failure of Crysis PC version. They may most probably decide to make it multi-platform and thus scale down the graphics.Hope it's not so.I believe, in the coming decade,we shall see the resurgence of PC gaming.
