intresting. From what I can remember, Psystar OpenComputer is a computer capable of running without any hastles five famous class of operating systems, viz, windows, macintosh osx, linux, solaris and bsd.

Psystar's attempt is good but one can even have an better assembled PC in lower price to run Mac that will outdo Mac Mini and even some iMacs.

yup. I can get this baby for 5k less.

anyway, its intresting to see that this budget system effortlessly pwns the mac mini and even mac book air, which is apple's defination of the best laptop. Unfortunately, due to the fact that Raaabo has not yet confirmed publically that discussing "running apple software on non apple hardware" is illegal, this thread may be deleted by drgrudge.

I think this thread can run. It doesn't seem illegal anymore. Although, I wonder what Psystar has in store for updating the system. You can't really update the system as you normally would.

If I felt it was illegal I would not have posted it in the first place (illegal news :-P ) Its just a news item, it does not discuss how to hack your OSX.

According to drgrudge, forum policy wants the posts to have nothing to do with even the idea of installing macintosh on a non apple computer, or discussing torrent trackers, even though the Indian Penal Code does not concider them illegal. Its somehting like this: Imagine US having a law that states discussing about Al-Quada is illegal. There is no sence in it, but as its a forum policy, beyond the question of even mods, we can do little about it.

ofcource you can. Its identified as a macintosh by apple's OS, and the OS is never hacked in the first place. Its just installed on the same hardware compiled by someone else. So there is also a possibility that apple can be screwed in court, especially in a country like russia, china, france, or India.

even if you don't ignore the legality, you will be right, but only to a certain extent. As far as assembling computers is concerned, only a skilled or well adviced assembler can beat psystar and macs.

There are no problems with update as long as one is using the stock kernel with EFI v8. Users having the stock kernel with EFI v8 can download the updates automatically via Apple Software Update.

For other users, they have to download the updates from Apple Website instead directly from Software Update. And then they should rip off the unnecessary items using pacifist.

So there are actually no problem with Mac OS X updating on a PC.

a) It isn't. It's actually the most underpowered Mac in the current lineup; and
b) There's a lot more to a computer than just the specifications and performance.
