Preview: The new AMD 780G with onboard DX10 graphics card!
AMD corp. have introduced a new budget conscious chipset featuring an onboard DX10 graphics card....althoght it didnt score well with games like
crysis but will do great if paired with a secondary GPU working in Hybrid-Graphics mode. here is some info from the source--
Quote:
----The 780G----
The 780G's most noteworthy feature is the onboard Radeon HD 3200 GPU. It's the first onboard video solution to support DirectX 10, and it also has a new hybrid graphics mode. Hybrid graphics lets you plug in a second GPU to work alongside the integrated graphics for better overall gaming performance. Dual GPU solutions perform, at best, twice as fast as the weakest link. In this case we're bottlenecked early on by the Radeon HD 3200. The following add-in GPUs will function in hybrid mode with the Radeon HD 3200: the Radeon HD 3450, Radeon HD 3470, Radeon HD 2400 Pro, and Radeon HD 2400 XT. The onboard Radeon HD 3200, even in hybrid mode, is useful for light gaming on older titles. Newer titles will likely run at playable frame rates but at low quality and resolution settings. You will need a more powerful GPU to play newer games with higher quality and resolution settings.
The onboard Radeon HD 3200 comes with the built-in Universal Video Decoder (UVD) found in other Radeon HD GPUs. UVD accelerates decoding for VC-1, MPEG-2, and H.264 video formats and reduces overall CPU utilization when playing back DVDs, HD DVDs, Blu-ray discs, or HD video files.
AMD's OverDrive utility also functions on the 780G platform. OverDrive lets users easily overclock the CPU, system bus, and even the video card for increased performance.
Our sample Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H micro-ATX motherboard comes with five internal SATA ports with support for RAID, one eSATA port, 12 USB ports, one firewire port, and the ubiquitous IDE and floppy disk drive ports. The motherboard has both DVI and VGA outputs, in addition to an HDMI output useful for connecting to HDTVs. Internal connectivity options include one PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot, one PCI Express x1 slot, and two additional PCI slots. You'll also find the usual array of audio inputs and onboard networking. The 780G supports up to 16GB of 1066MHz DDR2 memory.
Motherboards based on the 780G will vary in configuration and cost from $80 up to $120. To build a complete system you'll still need a bunch of other parts like the CPU, RAM, drives, and the like. End power requirements and noise will vary depending on how fancy you want to get with the other components.

Re: Preview: The new AMD 780G with onboard DX10 graphics card!
yeah saw the reviews on other sites too....
in one word its awesome
the integrated graphics part is called HD3200 and it is the exact replica of the low end variant graphic card HD 2400 XT....with 40 shaders and DX10.0 compliant....its 3.5 times faster than 690G graphic core....almost the performance of HD 3450 and also supports hybrid graphics to increase perofrmance further...
HD video decoding support....even a sempron 3200+ can play HD when combilned with this mobo....
it supports most of the features that an high end mobo supports like eSATA ,firewire,HDMI,display port,VGA,DVI and upto 4 monitor support,etc.....except RAID 5...
and i heard the power consumption of this mobo made a record setting with the lowest power consumed.....the north bridge consumes ~1W in idle....
chipset manufactured in 55 nm....so less heat,power,etc..
It supports AMD overdrive using which even noobies can easily overclock their CPUs.......
and the best part is that the default 500 MHz graphics core can be overclcoked to 950 MHz withput any issue increasing the performance by 35 %..........
seems like the G45 from intel has no chance against this beauty from AMD.....the only competiton is from nvidia 8200 chipset which is yet to be launched....

Re: Preview: The new AMD 780G with onboard DX10 graphics card!
wow! 99$ is pretty cheap. And AMD has done it again with that hybrid graphics mode.
I hope it involves the Onboard GPU handling normal OS and misc Apps while the dedicated card has been reserved eclusively for the games. This way, the card can sleep and low power mode can be created during sessions like web browsing, and it can be activated for gaming.
But I wonder why this Onboard GPU being a 3xxx series is not DirectX 10.1 compatible.
Is it OpenGL 2.1 compatible too ?
Now, with ATi Cards ruling the market and amd chipsets being better than nvidia ones, we only have to wait for AMD's Nehalem Killer.
But despite all these happy things, are we missing something ? Yes we are.
this hybrid graphics mode works only On M$ Window$ Pi$$ta

the IGP is based on the HD 2400 only which was a Dx10.0 version with 40 shaders.....
and yeah it is really a boon to the budget buyers.....i am looking forward to buy one for me(still using crappy G845 intel )

Re: Preview: The new AMD 780G with onboard DX10 graphics card!
You guys are going to like this:
The vista score when running the 780G onboard graphics is 3.7 & 3.9
The Vista score after installing a Radeon X1300 with 512MB DDR2 memory... was 3.2 & 3.4!!!
It's gone backwards!!!
Installed the latest V9.3 drivers.
I've got an Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI board.
Phenom 9500 quad core
4GB DDR2 1066 memory (that didn't make much of a difference to using DDR2 800)
1TB WD HD with 32MB cache 7200 RPM perpendicular recording
Only thing I don't know is the CPU loading when doing stuff... but according to some old tests at Tom's it's probably around 20%.
