Default Garmin viphone- tough competetion to iphone??

One of the top manufacturers of GPS devices, Garmin, has announced its unexpected entry into the cellular phone market. Christened as the n vifone, the device claims to bring the actual GPS navigation experience to the cellular phone along with being a premium multi-media phone.

Much like the iPhone and its competitors, the n vifone features a large 3.5 inch touch-screen display. It's a 3.5G ready quad-band world phone and supports full Web browsing. Along with that, it'll have Wi-Fi as well.

The phone will run on Garmin's proprietary OS and will be on the lines of the UI their current GPS devices incorporate. Other features include a built-in camera and integrated Google tools support.

Lastly, the phone claims to bridge the gap between GPS devices and phones by using their own navigation interface. It will come pre-loaded with country-specific maps and will have turn-by-turn voice-prompted directions.

Garmin anticipates that the n vifone will be available in the third quarter of 2008.

Its called Nuvifone if I am not wrong! And although it looks good, I have my doubts abt the OS that the phone will use! Its gonna be their own proprietary OS and thats a huge let down!

Why does every new phone coming out have to be compared to the iPhone?

And you think iPhone comes with some other OS rather than its own proprietary OS?

The phone looks good, let it launch.

No. Its because Apple products are always hyped. The iPhone being a mobile phone, is no exeption to this fact. Due to its good looks, people want to compare it with other similar products and see if its a white elephant or not.

Ofcourse, it is proprietary but it obviously has a large community following which you wont find in a "new" proprietary OS!!

You seem to be mistaken! One in thousands might be facing the issue you mentioned, but other than that, it is the best screen on a phone that I have seen till date!!

Perhaps they are..But iphone truly deseverd all the hype and hoopla! It truly is a wonderful piece of hardware/software!

Although I am myself a linux follower, I think we should appreciate whatever is good and according to me , iphone is good enough to deseve a lot of praises!!
