Thumbs up Cameras and cell phones to get HDMI port

Source

Quote:
Las Vegas (NV) - Cameras and cell phones are the latest consumer electronic devices to receive a bonafide HDMI port. HDMI, a High Definition Multimedia Interface, would allow video and audio to be transferred at HD speeds to and from portable devices.

While the question remains about how necessary such a high-speed protocol is for receiving devices with tiny screens, the ability for portable devices to play their captured HD content directly on a big screen via a single cable is potentially very big news for consumers.

The cameras, cell phones, and whatever other future devices ultimately wind up with an HDMI port, would have to pass the same certifications and be subject to the same royalty fees per port, as larger applications, like HDTVs, set top boxes, digital decoders, etc., which is 4 cents per port. In the end, each portable HDMI device would have the same 2.25 Gbps link, consuming around 60 mW. Since the protocol used would be the same one seen in larger applications, full HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) support would also be included.

IMO, I think the future is going to be HD & then Ultra HD.
So I don't see any reason why they can't promote any news or products pertaining to it.

Anyway, this news was from CES being held in Las Vegas aka
2008 International CES, January 7-10, Las Vegas

I see no over-hype in promoting one's product/technology.
