Default The Future of Computing, According to Intel

Massively multicore processors will enable smarter computers that can infer our activities.

Intel recently demonstrated a new, low-power computer chip that will use as many as eight cores, or processing units. Expected in the second half of 2008, the new chip will increase the amount of data that a machine can process and enable more-realistic graphics. But Andrew Chien, the director of Intel Research, is looking beyond eight-core chips and into the range of terascale computing, in which machines with tens or hundreds of cores perform trillions of operations every second. Chien is working with computer scientists at Intel and at universities around the world to find the best uses for these future machines.

Chien is speaking at the Emerging Technologies Conference today about Intel's exploratory research projects. Technology Review caught up with him beforehand to ask about the chip maker's research goals.

Not even 4 cores are being used effectively by softwares, and Intel is talking about 80 -100 cores. duh!!

look at the good side, when 8 cores comes out, 2 cores and 4 cores prices will go down alot, then many peopple can afford 4 core

Um? 4D? I thought it was only Length, Breadth and Depth (3D)

Maybe Time does count as 4th Dimension? Sheesh! Relativity

Well now 1 GB RAM costs what 256 MB ram costed earlier so what are the people cribbing about

And now , this 1 GB RAM has much much better performance than the earlier type so you get even more performance .

can't wait to get my hands on them !!!!

and

Time is the 4th dimension...
i hv studied topography and 4d physics

and u can't move in 4d dimension... if u say change it.. then u will time travel

every event in space has 3 co-ordinates..
and 4th is Time !!!!!
its called space time concept.......

there are no 4d objects ... lol. !!!!!!!! it makes no sense...

if they can create real 3d gaming enviroment.. that will be great...!!
but this is more of optics..

say you are dealing with 4 dimension
i.e. x,y,z,t dimension (the last one for time)

i cant figure out how one could see this kinda system - at least for that last dimension i.e. time - u cant make an eye dealing with time......... its soundin crazy dood - i fink therez limit to increase in number of eyes as far as dimensions increases

read the 12th physics (Moderns ABC), though am not in 12th (actually in BE final year) i just happend to read that stuff.

may be this will help, but no direct indication is given:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_dimension

NOTE: Do u all agree that with one eye u cannot predict the depth of two objects, which one is near to u and which is far.
