##################### Windows Vista Is Worse Than Windows 98 - a Rank Disaster! - Former Windows Developer trashes Vista By: Marius Oiaga, Technology News Editor ![]() Windows Vista makes users lose faith. The failed Wow was cataloged as a rank disaster, and produced the conclusion that Windows Vista is an operating system inferior to Windows 98. Alec Saunders is a former Senior Product Manager at Microsoft Canada, and yes, he is the one losing faith, and labeling Vista as worse off than Windows 98. But unlike general consumers, Saunders has access to the top Microsoft executives, and he failed to hesitate to give them a piece of his mind. The last drops for Saunders were a whole night of struggle with Windows Vista, and a report detailing that one out of every six laptops sold in the U.S. is a Mac from Apple. Fortunately enough, Saunders has the emails of Microsoft Chief Executive Office Steve Ballmer, Jeff Raikes, President, Microsoft Business Division and Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group. "Steve, Jeff and Steve…" Saunders began his email. "I am writing you both because I know you from my days at Microsoft from 1992 to 2001. And to put what I’m about to say in context, I have been a Windows PC user since Windows version 1.02, and my home is stuffed full of PCs, networks and servers… all running Windows – XP, Vista, Home Server. I worked on the launches of MS-DOS 6, MS-DOS 6.2, Windows 3.1, WFW, NT 3.1, NT 3.51, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows CE, Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME before leaving the company. " Who else could be more suitable in passing judgment on Windows Vista, than a man intimately involved in the building of over 11 operating systems from Microsoft. Simply put, Saunders believes that Vista is the absolute low as far as product quality goes. "Now that you have the context for who I am, I want to tell you that I am seriously losing faith. My experience with Windows Vista has been a rank disaster. At this point, I believe it to be worse than Windows 98, which many consider to be the worst quality Windows product that Microsoft ever released," he stated. Saunders complained about driver quality, about software compatibility and support and about the actual quality of Windows Vista. The platform subsystems apparently stop working for no reason, the printers connected to Vista act up and need manual restart in order to regain functionality. And on top of it all, even Microsoft software does not integrate seamlessly with Windows Vista. Saunders immediately got replies from Raikes and Sinofsky, both promising that the user experience in relation to the quality of the operating system will improve substantially. This of course will not happen any sooner than Windows Vista Service Pack 1, in the first quarter of 2008, with all indications at this time pointing to an availability date after February of next year. source: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windo...er-66094.shtml

Do hell with who wrote it. I like it, I use it. Damn, the creator of 11 OS's.
And some1 comparing Win Vista with Win98 shouldn't be considered. No matter who he is.

The one who wrote it is a total moran. I mean he is actually comparing them and not to be content with it he actually thinks vista is bad of the two.
Totally stupid person. Quote:

There's two keys to the left of the M on your keyboard. They are for comma and period. Use time sometimes...

well, i dont know, may be its just me...
the .mov files sucks in vista , most dont play at all. the only player that plays them is KMP, not even QT, VLC plays some .... as a result aftereffects, combustion, max ,and my compression programs occasionally crashes. the end result ..........i moved back to xp . after trying all the hell to work successfully with vista. right now for me it sucks. i guess it will take atleast 2 years for vista to be there on the track. the only problem with xp is that GTA San Andreas kind a plays SUPER SUPER fast . like overkill for the game. but thats ok, atleast all my apps work well...

the reason why i believe led ppl to think that vista is a failure is coz of huge expectations.
consider this: windows 95 was a huge leap from dos + windows 3.11. however, since it was the first of its kind there were lotsa bugs (yes, i remember reporting a few to MS myself). when win98 came, it was integrated wid ie4.0, had small but significant interface changes and had most of the bugs ironed out. win98se was a major upgrade on the driver front wid support for WDM. it was more stable than win98 or win95 and even to this day win98se can be seen on many many old computerz. however, this day when we had a mature OS in the form of winXP SP2 and applications like media player 10, ie6 for winxp and software like talisman, window blinds people had a huge set of resources at their disposal. so for a layman, whats new in windows vista? the aero, only? for him/her the underlying indiscernible new things (like the bsd borrowed network stack, new driver model etc.) mattered the least. the average joe expected much more from vista and wid things like the 'delete bug' (tho it didn't affect all), DRM rumour/confusion etc. added more fuel to fire. this is what led to vista's comdemnation and its comparison between to win98's success, in my opinion.

The biggest advantage vista provides is that to Developers . The underlying Technologies , especially WPF n Speech API's n the whole new windows API provide a very very convenient way to program your apps . Don't believe me ? here's a Simple program to synthesize speech in Vista in C# : Code:
using System;
using System.Speech.Synthesis;
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{
SpeechSynthesizer synth = new SpeechSynthesizer();
synth.SpeakText("Hello, world!");
}
}
(the above code , for example requires just 2 statements ) Similarly Technologies like WPF + Expression Blend allow you to desing truly interactive Application Interfaces easily , just like you would in an Illustration Program like Adobe Illustrator . So in short , the Majority of the changes in Vista are from the Inside rather than the outside .

Exactly. But the end user doesn't 'feel' any real difference cause the end user doesn't see the differences in code...
