guys i searched a bit and it seems that the ipod touch and iphone cost the same  - 399$
beleieve me it wud be really a waste of money going for the ipod touch ... go for the iphone dont use the phone use it as a pmp or hack it and use it as a phone as well ... 399$ for the touch 16gb nad iphone 8gb ... thats stupid marketting

I had no idea that iPhone is selling so bad. First the release 2 models & then just after 2 months they discontinue it 
Lets see, if iPhone was selling so well as Apple claims then why reduce prices?

The demand for the iPhone was so high since two years before it was launched that Apple knew they could ride it and sell the initial units at any price they wanted. And they were right. Highest selling smartphone. Now that the demand has leveled off a bit, why not reduce the price and be more aggressive. They sold one million units in two months just in the United States. That's not a joke.
And if you really and truly believe that Apple is selling them at a loss, you must be on crack!

With current dollar to rupee ratio it should cost nearly 16000-16500. If it costs 20000 then its nearly 25% greater than US price. Obviously this ratio will be different when it may be launched in India(when???) but still 20000 is a just too much!!

They wont make losses gx, just reducing the profit margin... By having increased sales quantity, overall profit will be higher than if they had stuck to same price (would have had fewer sales with higher profit margin)

Yup, Apple always overcharges for the products. But with that logic, it means iPhone is already selling well, according to Apple, so people will buy it anyway. So again, why reduce price

It is only available in the United States of America right now and it is locked to AT&T so you cannot use it in India even if you buy it from there.
Wait. It will most probably come to India towards the end of the first quarter, next year.

@Arya....sorry to burst your bubble(kidding tho  )...but you can get the iPhone to actually work here. Its working on the Hutch network in Mumbai w/o any problems, confirmed sources hai. 16.5k seems tempting, i just might put off my plans to get a new phone
