Google releases Shared Storage Program

Reports we’re getting in the mail say that some Gmail users have seen their storage bumped to over 9GB today - 9030MB, to be exact. If not a glitch (and why would it be?), it means Google is playing catch-up with Yahoo, which now provides unlimited storage.

With no other info, we can only assume the accounts are currently being selected at random. As someone who is just about to exceed his Gmail limit, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Not bad at all. Its about time that the G-guys caught up with Y! Many people prefer gmail anyway though (the people I know, that is. Then again, that can't really be relied upon much...they sometimes just pick random things. Hmm. *talking with myself again*)

Extended inbox capacity. Just perfect. Now, you can store up to hundreds more stupid forward emails, and get to delay mass deleting them for a week longer. Whoopie!

You try filling your inbox up with files, and there goes your account at the hands of their TOS. What's the use of so much space then? Even by the time I die, say at 60-65 years, I'd have just filled up around 60% of my mailbox.

I have always said that there is no need for so much space. I have only used 350MB of my ~2.9GBs. Its just it would look cool when Ill tell my friends that for some reason Gmail increased my mail limit to 9GB. They will do a Vista WOW.

I have a Yahoo account with unlimited space. I love it, I never have to bother about deleting all the silly forwards.

Other than that, I agree, I never found it to be of much use either.

Guys even indiatimes is going all out to advertise its web2 mailbox with unlimited storage. Their ads r everywhere. What about that service? Any user here to tell something about it?

I don't care about space. I love Gmail's speed and interface. Still using just 200MB, though all are proper emails. No forwards here.

I have a total of 959 emails and I never even bother checking how much space they consume. Who cares! I'll likely never exceed two gigabytes and even if I do, one terabyte would probably be as commonplace then as a gigabyte is today.

Gmail is NOT increasing space
but the thing is that now we can buy space on google by giving 20$ for 10 gb and that is shared between picasa and gmail
so for us phokat ke users NO change.

GMail's storage counter was not paused for me atleast. Anyways the news that GMails 9000MB space is also wrong. You need to buy the space at a rate of 20$/year.
