Default Apple Issues v1.0.1 Update for iPhone

Quote:
The iPhone gets its first system update

Apple's iPhone yesterday received its first official software update. According to Apple, v1.0.1 is mainly a security update aimed at closing vulnerabilities in the Safari web browser.

The changes that Apple admits to include a fixes to how Safari handles JavaScript and a buffer overflow issue in the Perl Compatible Regular Expressions (PCRE) library. Other fixes revolve around HTTP injection issues, look-alike characters being used in a URL and unexpected application termination when visiting malicious sites.

According to Gizmodo, Apple didn't just stop with security fixes. There are also updates to the YouTube application, improved Exchange/ IMAP support and increased system stability.

When it comes to the system update’s affect on modded phones, the iPhone Dev Wiki has issued this progress report:
Full system wipe on modded phones (fails integrity check)
Downgrade does not work (Kind of mixed reports here. Apparently you can go
through the process, but Settings > General > About still says 1.0.1)
The phone goes back through the activation process (DVD Jon's method has been
confirmed to work still along with the other Windows methods)
Jailbreak 1.0 appears to work just fine
Newer versions of iPhoneInterface (0.3.3 and up) are known to work.

The v1.0.1 software update can be downloading by syncing your iPhone with iTunes.

By hacks, he means the various ways through which people have managed to install wallpapers, change ringtones, install software, etc. - not the vulnerabilities.

The biggest mistake Apple has done is to run everything with root privilege in iPhone. Ofcourse it can be easily hacked.

Oh wait, hacks provide features that jobs decided not to give.

iFuntastic 2.1 anyone

obviously, i know what hacks mean!!! thats what i meant... even after knowing that there are many hacks there.. apple should've blocked them in the update. but i guess this update was mainly for the safari vulnerability.

Changing wallpapers does not require any hacking but yes, it does not support third party applications yet except for Web 2.0 applications.

Because Apple loses nothing due to it. Only AT&T stands to lose.

They did the same with the TV. When they updated it, they did not disable the hacks and stuff. Why do they care! Only those RIAA folks lose if people play pirated stuff on Apple's products.

At least, that is my theory - and I may be completely wrong.
