Default Acer: No Demand For Linux PCs in U.K.

Ubuntu Linux on Acer products look promising in Singapore, but not the U.K., according to Acer

Acer will not ship products with Ubuntu or Linux offerings until demand for the products continues to rise.

An Acer spokesperson confirmed Acer does not have any immediate plans to sell Linux systems in the United Kingdom. "[Acer models] with Ubuntu pre-loaded are available at the factory level. However, there is no demand for it in the U.K. Therefore, those configurations are not an option [for U.K. customers] at the moment," said an Acer spokesperson.

Acer America also doesn't plan to ship any products with Ubuntu linux-pre loaded: "For now, Acer America has no plans for Ubuntu on our Aspire or TravelMate PC lines," said Alison Williams, Acer company spokesperson.

I think Acer does not ship Lin Lappys does not means Ubuntu is something bad. And if the "spokesperson" tells everything correct, then read this too ..

Acer president Gianfranco Lanci did tell Financial Times Deutschland that "the whole [PC] industry is disappointed with Windows Vista".

Source ? Just click the source link of the above post !! , yes the same link.

Linux is not good enough for dektop users right now....too many dependency problems, updating the whole OS every 6 months. Ubuntu itself is being called a bloat

^Yawn and whining!
I read in slashdot that seems because of acer sales are low and training the staff for new operating system is simply hard for them
Linux is ready for the Desktop and Linux is NOT a clone of winblow$-for that u can go get reactos!

hardware vendors are squeezed for profit margin. selling windows preinstalled adds a bit of margin. Perhaps the studies they may or may not have conducted to determine market demand indicated that people who wanted linux also wanted a lower price tag for the hardware. Perhaps this expectation was inflexible, meaning that unit margin on a given PC would go down if they were to sell without MS. Or if they didn't conduct that study, maybe this is one of their fears that keeps them from offering linux product.
