I guess not so surprising as, if u consider that Server 2008 Beta came out with Service Pack 1, it was all most certain that Vista SP1 was just around the corner !!

Hmm...this will incorporate fixes only. No new features in SP1.
New features like WinFS & .Net 3.5 will be released as add on packs later & will be incorporated in SP2. So expect a BIG SP2

This Service Pack was also expected to include an entirely new kernel (the root code of the operating system)...but dznt look as if its going to happen...

winfs seems interesting.will they get it packed in this sp.does winfs change basic fs from ntfs to something new?.

Most part of the NT kernel is re-written in Vista including the network & I/O stack
Windows 7 will bring a compleately new written from scratch kernel which might no longer support apps older then Vista. WinFS runs on top of NTFS
