Cool iPhone. A guided tour.

It is a twenty-five minute walkthrough of most of whatever the iPhone has to offer. It occurs in real time with an actual person using it so you can see how slick and responsive the interface is.

I request everyone who reads this topic to download and watch this video. Even if you hate Apple, hate the iPhone and have no intention to buy it, watch this video just to see the user interface. You have never seen this stuff before. It is my belief that anyone even slightly interested in technology would be delighted to see this video. I know I sound like a silly fanboy but I am sure that people are genuinely going to be thankful to me for having goaded them into viewing this awesome demo.

It is 318 megabytes in size though, so it may not be everyone's cup of tea. But if you can, you should.

There are smaller versions too. Just click on the image.

Once you have given it a go, let us know in the comments what you think of the iPhone now. Have you ever seen any phone - including the N95s and W960is - that comes close to this in terms of the sheer software engineering that has gone into making the interface for this device?

Thank you!

lolz....so now u need to beg us to market iphone .
Understand one thing, UI alone does nothing if the product is itself inferior. iPhone is good only as a PMP

Oops! Sorry! I accept it was my mistake. I forgot to mention that it is strictly for normal human beings only. Sorry sorry sorry! Will take more care next time.

Default Re: iPhone. A guided tour.

Since Apple is hyping this phone like anything. I thought I should post this which I found on Engadget

Quote:
Here's what they had to say:
  • The keyboard was simply described as "disappointing". Keyboarding with two thumbs often registers multiple key presses (two or three at a time) resulting in a lot of mistakes. The best way to type is with a single finger (as shown in most of Apple's demos), but two thumbs is supposedly very difficult. After trying it for a number of days our source gave up using their thumbs.
  • The text auto-correction only works well for simple words, but doesn't work for proper names. We can only assume this bit will get better with time as Apple fills out its predictive text dictionary.
  • "It won't replace a BlackBerry. It's not good for text input. It's just not a business product."
  • The touchscreen was said to, in general, require somewhat hard presses to register input, and needs some getting used to.
  • In addition to its dock, the iPhone comes packaged with a polishing cloth (the thing's supposedly a fingerprint magnet, no surprise) and the usual smallish power adapter.
  • The Bluetooth headset will debut in the $120 range, and will come with its own dock for charging both the phone and the headset. The headset will feature a miniature magnetic charging interface á la MagSafe.
Click on for more impressions on the headset, browser, YouTube, and more.
  • The Bluetooth headset has a hidden LED and is supposedly a very small and elegant device. Sound quality is said to be "typical". There is no clip; like many headsets you're expected to just let it hang out of your ear, as previously shown.
  • The browser "worked well" but page load speeds on EDGE were just as slow as expected. It sounds like 3G users will have a tough run with this.
  • Users must scroll through the address book (or use the alphabet-drag on the side) -- one cannot bring up the keyboard and type in a name, as many of us are used to.
  • Shocker: YouTube over EDGE didn't work well at all, and will basically necessitate use of WiFi.
Ok, that's all we've got for now. At this point we're just really looking forward to putting the spurs to this thing -- Apple is hyping this product like nothing we've ever seen before, and we're ready to bring every detail to light. In the mean time, here's that commercial again.
Lolz..$120 for the bluetooth adapter , the most costly bluetooth 2.0 adapter from logitech is $80. What next, are they gonna charge $ 100 for iPhone pouch.

Just compare yourself

I just saw the video. Have to say, Apple knows how to market there inferior products. Some lines which I m quoting from that Video, which I can do in my current K750i & more with the upcoming W960i which I will write here in place of W960i.

iPhone =Works only with AT&T & locks you to a contract for 2 years. W960i works with any Mobile service provider & doesn't locks you for 2 years.

Touch Screen = Both in iPhone & W960i

iPhone = Pressing the home Button from anywhere bring u back to the home screen

K750i = Keeping the keypad back button pushed bring me back to the desktop on K750i.

iPhone = U can lock the screen but Music will continue to play. If there is a call then it will come to u whether the screen is locked or not.

K750i = Same thing, Lock the keypad but the music will continue to play. U still get the phone calls while the screen is locked.

iTunes Syncs with iPhone

K750i Syncs with SE PC Suite or Myphoneexplorer with Outlook

Holding calls, conferencing....yup supported in both iPhone & K750i/W960i

While u r on call, you can still SMS, E-Mail, record audio, do many things on the phone. Both in iPhone & SE Phones

iPod features = Yup, both iPhone & W960i have 8 GB Memory, Video Audio & Photo playback. W960i plays many more audio formats then iPhone which plays only mp4. W960i has a serious edge over iPhone here.

Just open the media player application in K750i/W960i & it will show all videos or all videos or sorted by genre or artist etc

Safari on iPhone = Opera mini or Opera native with full HTML capabilities. You can add any search in Opera Native for W960i while you can't in iPhone. Its only Yahoo or Google

IMAP & Pop Mail = Yup, available on both W960i & iPhone. K750i & W960i Syncs with outlook & exchange server. I can also watch PDF, doc etc in W960i too.

Clicking Links in Mails or SMS opens that.

Google Maps : iPhone has it, W960i also has it via opera or free 3rd party apps here.

YouTube = Yup, available in iPhone as well as K750i & W960i via Youtube mobile. Or Using opera. Remember, for iPhone you tube needs to convert the video to H.264 which means not all videos are available. But using Opera for W960i you can view any video made in flash. YouTube will work only with WiFi while on W960i it works even with 3G & edge

Flight Mode = Yup, both in W960i

Where does W960i pwns iPhone

Camera = iPhone has 2 MP, W960i has 3.2 MP.

Applications = iPhone has no 3rd party application support. W960i can have any Symbian app

IM = iPhone has no IM capability, W960i can install IM+ or Morange client or jYMSG & chat on MSN, Yahoo AOL IC1 Google talk.

MMS = iPhone has none, W960i has this.

Network = iPhone has only EDGE & WiFi. W960i has WiFi, 3g, HSDPA, EDGE everything.

Where iPhone pwns W960i

Big screen

iPod support

Animations in Interface

Fellow members, you decide which is better buy.

I know Symbian rocks too....but since iPhone has a locked OS which can only be compared to the SE offering, thats why I mentioned K750i (old set) to iPhone & to W960i (new phone)

What about expected cost of each (iPhone and SE W960i) in India? How do they compare? And their expected date of availability in India too?

Answer that question, have you?

There will always be those who are satisfied with things that are good enough. For people who demand more, people who want the best, there is Apple. It isn't about offering a boatload of features, it is about offering an experience that blows you away!

You mean touching the screen to do stuff like deleting or editing or typing on screen keyboard using my fingers? Yup, I have done that on P800i, P900i, O2 XDA 2 Atom, W950i, Moto Ming, Moto ROkr.......

You mean animation in the UI? Nope, thats new & slow.

Have u ever used P990i or W950i or Nokia communicator or Nokia Internet Tablet? Obviously you don't know anything about the devices which were there since ages.

The only thing good about Apple software & hardware is that it looks good. Thats it. But looking good alone doesn't means it works better. Arya, the good UI bubble will burst in few years for you, don't worry. This is the reason I switched to Windows from Mac OS X 10.2.

It says

Large (175MB)

But only the word "Large" can be clicked on and it gives 318.26MB zip file to download although there is 175MB in brackets beside "Large". Name of the file is apple-iphone-welcome_848x480.zip. I already downloaded 48%. I just want to know if its the correct file. I am willing to download large files if the resolution is better.

Me too. Once you do download it, please post its properties. If you view it in QuickTime Player, go to 'Windows >> Show Movie Info' or hit 'Ctrl + I'. I will download it too if it is something different.

Mac OS X has, in most cases, only subtle advantages over Windows in terms of user interface design (features like Exposé and the Dashboard notwithstanding) so your animosity towards it can be forgiven to a certian extent. But the user interface of the iPhone is just leap years ahead of anything on any other phone and it is "in-your-face" evident from that video. I think you had Notepad open in full screen when that video was running and you were compiling your stupid list while listening to the audio because there is just no other normal reason why someone would not instantly fall in love with the user interface of the iPhone.

Fellow members, Arya likes the interface & animation of iPhone. I don't find it any special over what we already have today in Windows Mobile 6 or Symbian based phones such as W960i/Nokia N95. Does that makes me stupid?

There is a new video about the iPhone at Apple. Click on the image to download it:

It is available in four sizes, the largest being 72MB.

The original guided tour video has now suddenly increased in size. It was originally 172MB and now is 318MB. The only difference between the two videos is that the larger one has the data rate of 1793.66 kbits/sec while the smaller one is 979.42 kbits/sec. What difference does that make? As far as I can see, the video quality is the same. I feel like a fool for having downloaded 318MB all over again on a limited connection.

I agree. First versions are not patched. My friend's bad experience with some nokia 3xxx phone which was first s60 mobile taught me that. The demo is awesome. I can't compare with windows mobile because I havent seen one. I will wait for real reviews before suggesting it to anyone.

i cant even think of this iphone..
many of the hutch guys told me tht hutch will be changed to Vodafone completely in August & 1st thing they gonna launch in india is 3G .. & i think this is a TECH forum & not a
EYECANDY forum.. & MOST of the ppl here r looking for Features rather than looks..
Looks do matter to me.. but i wud never invest 35 grands in a fone just with looks.
ppl only do tht when they have lots of money to waste & no BRAINS to use the features.

First of all to say the design and display are the best (thatz a cult for apple.... iPhone is no different)..

I only have 3 gripes against the iPhone specs (Hope these will be upgraded in the next generation)

1) no HSDPA/UMTS support. (Hope Apple will definitely upgrade as most of AT&T's networks are of the faster HSDPA flavor.

2) Support for external memory formats....we wud luv to have the memory expandable apart from the in-buit one.

3) Better camera specs (at least 3.2 MP).... because of the sheer mobile processing power under its hoods...

Also going for a 1st gen device is adventurous enuf...... let the fanboys do it.... I will definitely get one later the next year when the features and specs get better ... till then let me use my W850i, Cingular 8525 and XDA O2 to my hearts full !!!

No, iphone will be able to install 3rd party applications.... Saw it on Dailytech about that.. so that means DivX support MAY be developed. Albeit everything can be developed as a 3rd party tool for that MacOS on iPhone.....

After all it has an excellent processing power.... 3 ARM processors with definitely an nVidia GPU (as on iPods) ... this translates to superb video processing capabilities..... defnitely my iPod video has got the best video quality among any device of its class out there...
