Default Windows Vista no more secure than XP: Report

The strength of Windows Vista's security model is easily the biggest question facing the nascent operating system. While sales will be strong simply on account of the way OEMs have adopted Vista on their midrange and high-end offerings, the place of Vista in the enterprise is not yet clear. Microsoft must demonstrate that its approach to security with Vista is indeed effective; otherwise, IT managers will see little benefit to moving to the new OS anytime soon.

Other OSs have different architecture. We are talking about Windows which has embedded "common sense" developed by MS.

True. That's the reason why a very less no. of viruses for linux exist eventhough linux being Open-Source!

saurav mac boys and OSC hav 2 things in common ....

1. their hatred for windows (coz apparently they dont know how to use it and say its not secure)
2. both use OSs that are unix based .... hence they will always join hands when it comes showing any MS product in bad light

And those are just puny ones!
U see u need "common sense" when operating Bindows, u need to be very techy and a geek and thats how u survive without anti-virus, anti-infection softwares and just using a firewall ? So u can very well say that an end-user needs administrator level knowledge and know "How to use bindows and secure it"!!
Soooo user friendly, but at the end the bindows fanboys will still say its for average joe.

Ok.. imagine my little cousin sits on my windows machine.. He sees all kinds of cute smilies on a web page which say "click me" everywhere.. Or imagine suddenly he sees a popup saying "your computer is infected.. click here to remove the virus" what do you think he will do? And what do you think would be the fate of my windows machine?

Kalpik.

IE 7 comes with a pop up blocker which in enabled by default. It will not install any application without notifying the user. If this happens your little cousin will sure call u, trust me.

2nd, if it is an OEM PC it surely comes with some sort of security suite which now usually comes with Anti-Spyware etc.

If it is self made PC or assembled PC then who ever installed Windows whether legal or illegal on it, must be wise enough to install an antivirus on it if he is not going to use it himself.

But I think M$ or any other corporation can make a good OS (Virii free and all that).but they purposefully opened their OS for others(AV companies?) also to loot from Windows Customers.wait!we can see what M$ will bring up when they release "singularity" i am optimistic
