Default Microsoft's Unwinnable War on Linux and Open Source

How is an untouchable superpower defeated? In many cases, it foolishly engages itself in an unwinnable war and simply consumes itself.

Microsoft, threatened by the encroachment of competition from open source, has long waged a detached propaganda war against free software and in particular Linux, but has recently escalated its conflict into a full blown attack. Here's what's happening, and why it will greatly accelerate the company's undoing.

That is a well thought and intelligently written opinion column if ever there was one.

Why Microsoft Won't List Claimed Patent Violations

"Earlier today, Microsoft announced it will begin actively seeking reparations for claimed patent infringement by Linux and the open source community in general. One opinion on why Microsoft won't reveal these 235 alleged IP infringements to the public is that they're afraid of having the claims debunked or challenged — so instead they're waiting until the OS community comes to the bargaining table. But a more optimistic thought is that Microsoft may be afraid to list these supposed violations because it knows the patents can be worked around by the open source community, leaving Microsoft high and dry without any leverage at all."

Down with DRM & software patents.

There are only a few ways to do something. If componies start patenting "A method to work on a mobile device using fingers" then everyone who uses SE W950i with Fingers insted of Stylus will be sued the moment they touch there mobile phone screens with a finger

Software patents should not exist, however software technology patents should exist, like nvidia Real time Compiler in there driver.
