Exclamation Microsoft buying Yahoo !?

Microsoft hot for Yahoo: Is it for real this time?
With the shadow of Google looming over both companies, the New York Post says the software giant wants Yahoo to consider a buyout.

Microsoft has intensified its pursuit of a deal to take over, asking the company to re-enter formal talks, the Post reported on its Web site Friday.

While the two companies have held informal deal talks over the years, the latest approach signals a new urgency on Microsoft's part, the paper said, citing unnamed sources.

Yahoo shares surged $5, or 17.7 percent, to $33.18 in premarket trading, while shares of Microsoft fell 28 cents to $30.69.

this time it looks real, feels the newyorkpost !

in another development "Microsoft buys Tellme" !
Microsoft said Thursday it has closed its deal to buy voice recognition specialist Tellme Networks.
Tellme CEO Mike McCue remains at Microsoft as head of that unit, working with Zig Serafin, who is the general manager of Microsoft's Unified Communications Group. The company, which reports into Jeff Raikes' business software unit, is remaining in its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters.
Mountain View is also home to Microsoft's existing Silicon Valley offices.

in yet another development, Microsoft has announced plans to buy ScreenTonic, a company that specializes in delivering localized ads to mobile devices, for an undisclosed sum... ScreenTonic has worked with Apple, Nokia, and Nike in addition to European telecommunications operators in Belgium, France, and the U.K.

$50 billion would be a slightly hefty price tag for a company(Yahoo) that is fast losing out market share, to Google, in online services. But, I don't think Yahoo will accept anything less than that much premium. If Microsoft sees that much value in Yahoo, then they can easily acquire Yahoo. Their market cap is around 5 times that of Yahoo.

Of course, such deals are a banker's delight. I can see the poor M&A analysts(What a paradox!) at 'The Firm' working frantically at valuations and legal work.

Yahoo is not only in ADs & Search engine area. They have many products & ventures. Yahoo Messenger is widely used. Yahoo Movies, shoping, music engine... Yahoo TV & NOw soon Yahoo Go. They have a big market out there, it does makes sence for MS to acquire Yahoo.

But personally, I don't like MS buying Yahoo. Do some deals thats it.

This just in....

According to Engadget, the deal was never real & was just a rumar

^^ exactly ... ever since google has gained its position yahoo has had to take a back seat ... and as LSE has pointed out they are loosing market share ... howevr if MS takes over it will surely trun the tide around and also eliminate 1 pain in their back and then combined they can easily take on the might of google

Yahoo should make there web integrating softwares a bit better.

1) Yahoo Messenger for Vista, based on WPF. GTK+Qt based on Linux too...this is required if yahoo wants to make new markets

2) Yahoo widgets engine, again based on WPF & Quartz

3) Yahoo Music engine for other OS. It is good now, but doesn't support many PMPs
