Sources close to Microsoft confirmed Monday that it is currently testing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1). However, the company itself officially has yet to announce a definite date for the software pack's release other than saying it will be out in the second half of 2007

The owner of a blog dedicated to software patches has posted online more than 100 fixes he said are expected to be included in Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), Microsoft Corp.'s first major update to its latest Windows client operating system.

Ethan Allen, owner of The Hotfix blog and Web site, has posted a preview and information center for SP1, a site that includes many of the software patches Microsoft will include in the package, he said.

Allen, a software quality assurance manager at a company in Bellevue, Wash., said he received the fixes from someone close to Microsoft who has access to the technology.

dude, XP released in 2001 and Vista in 2007 and there is only 3 million increase in sales number?

Come on. When you compare the sales of Vista with that of Windows 95, the change will be exponential. That doesn't mean that Vista is roaring success.

Don't forget that Ballmer said just few days before the sales number release that Vista sales are not looking good.

Comparing Vista sales with XP's is just a marketing gimmic and nothing else.

and as I told, no offense meant in my earlier post. It's known fact that Vista will be a success (is there any better alternate to vista in PC?) but as of now, vista sales are still not upto the mark ( as per Steve Ballmer)

and we all knew that Microsoft was working on SP1 even before Vista was released.

Well those of you who think that SP1 will introduce any new major security patches,then you are wrong because already Vista is the most secure OS till now & mind you no XP viruses work on Vista..and SP1 addresses compatibility issues & performance improvements...

Just Kidding mate. That signature means that Leopard is far ahead of Windows in Operating System design. If you still don't understand, leave it and I am not going to change the signature.

Though the majority of fixes should be for compatibility issues and performance issues, there should be some security fixes in Vista SP1.

well security patches are there but not major ones...All minor ones...most of them are compatibility & performance improvements

You people are missing some of the major enhancements to be brought about by SP1.
SP1 shall include Kernel Code v 6 and also an ehnanced Windows Search for network searching support.

And for all those who feel Vista is a complete copy for Leopard, please have a look at this article, http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...rd_preview.asp, it shall throw light on the supposedly Major Features of Leopard, features which MS releases as free powertoys for Windows.

Also, what apple claims as 5 major OS releases oer 6 years, are just minor addons to the same OS X. Contrary to that, MS has evolved XP a lot more than what Apple has done to OS X.

I am not saying Vista has not copied Leopard, even it has copied iCal. But atleast it does not flay its compititors like apple does, even for features it itself has copied from other OS.

@ambandla : i think you should better stick to mac, coz fanboys have made made threads as fighting places and you are making it here... kiran and ravi are absolutely right, and as far as MAC is concerned, i wont comment on it, coz everyone now knows that WHAT MACS are? what they can do and what not, so its baseless and meaning less discussions again and agian.. if you want mods and admins to lock the thread or miserable 1 or 2 people then i cant say anything.. else read other threads and be happy

Who will use vista friend. The speed at which xp run on 736mb ram is fast. But vista will run at a very low speed.

When I used to run Xp home edition with SP2 on my machine(3 ghz,1 gb ram,128 MB Asus Radeon 9600 XT) it used to work sluggishly but when I installed Vista on my system it has been working super fast even better than a fresh install of XP...

WRONG.

when i ran Vista Beta2 on the following config,, it out-performed XP.

config.- Intel DG965WH, P4 - 3.06GHz, 512/1GB DDR2 800 Corsair RAM.

i had installed XP Pro (sp2), but it was slow.

the drive access time, file access time(just after desktop comes).... were so faast on Vista, as if the files were stored on RAM.

Vista manages the RAM (resources) pretty nicely.




P.S. i had run Vista on 512 & 1GB RAM config.

btw did you install Vista on your system?, if yes then post your config pls.

yup thats what I meant...it is superfast compared to XP....Now I dont feel like goin back to XP again...My desktop just loads within 20-30 secs & in XP it used to load in 1.5 mins.....Long live Vista

Dude, even i am running Vista on my Laptop with Centrino 1.6 and 758 MB ram and it outperforms XP.

Right now, it has Intel 915 and hence Aero is Disabled, otherwise if i would have had a better graphics card, performance would have been better and faster.

Try it out first, do not take other peoples word that vista will be slower.

as you use Vista, u will feel its speed enhancements over XP. I just dont understand why people criticise, it happened even during XP saying 98 is more stable than XP.

If u r not interested in something, dont bother to speak or write there as it has nothing to do with you. I never go to the open source thread as I am against the concept of open source.

Im using Windows Vista as my main OS.... I don not have any other OS installed on my PC.... and trust me vista rocks....
Its by far the best OS created by MS.... Im using the 32 bit edition and am gonna install the 64 bit now..... The hardware compatiability is good... i dint had to install any driver by myself (manually)....not even my graphic card.....

But do install the driver for your graphics card. I dint feel the need to do install driver for graphics card until I found that VLC dint show video coz of that. Even I am planning to use 64 bit now
