Lightbulb Microsoft makes copying Vista a monster task

...Even the unique Vista retail packaging--a plastic box with one round corner--was designed, in part, to thwart counterfeiters. And the packaging is just the start; most of Microsoft's antipiracy work is built-into the software itself, meaning that just copying the code and getting a product key isn't enough...

With Windows XP, antipiracy measures were a bit of an afterthought. But with Windows Vista, Microsoft had pirates in its sights from the get-go...

for what are you guys saying that the article is lame... Brute force and the other cracks have been Patched up now, and you people say that we can get updates from Microsoft after Cracking also.. you know what.. that This is the gratest Thing as through updates only Vista is been made more secure and the cracks patches are also given in form of updates , and then what happens is your countdown starts again... watch it in april all these cracked versions will go down,,, and after Sp1.. see the difference...

I dont think that the piracy will reduce coz of that. With Xp they provided sp2 to check the authentcity of the product and sp2 installed only if the product was original. Heck the users/piracy promoters were sad! Then crackers integrated the sp2 with windows xp. Users were happy again. Then they used some sorta tool that told u that ur copy isn't genuine when the machine had a net connection. Then the crackers provided a crack for that too to show the genuine label.

What I think is that MS is just enhancing the skills of crackers giving them homework each month and then giving them tougher work again n again! There was a time I heard stories that a pirate can never use pirated windows with sp2.

yeah that is true.. but the things are changing.. Vista was Hacked in RC stage by hackers contracted by M$ in just 3 mins.. this showed how insecure it was that time.. then enhancements were made.. so the cycle runs this way only.. it goes another step forward with time.. now with Enhanced WGA upcoming will make it even more difficult and there is some other Enhancements for Windows Xp coming up, that will stop and spywares or Adwares into the system, that doesnt mean that Piracy or adwares Etc. will stop.. coz the people working in M$ are also Humans and the crackers are also humans.. but the point is one side wants to develop and the other wants to destroy..

It gives another headache to Programmers and other developers to work more hard and some more additions are made to the installation and installed products.. ask the MVP's if they got the M$ kit,, and if they tried installing the XP SP2 from it.. the installation size is of 655 MB and not 499 or 475 mb, coz it is with the future additions which are curently under testing.. and will be availabel to public in a short while...

but what happens now.. The good persons will not leak this copy , but some of them would do... they would distribute it and sell the copies and some crakers do get these copies.. they anayze it and then crack is made out of it..

another thing is that M$ always gets these thing because of freely distributing copies.. either to beta testers or that RC distribution to customers.. this goes in anti thing.. coz before the product is launched its Cracks are made up.. coz they get the source with these betas and RCs...
so this concludes in the sense that Development will not STOP piracy or anything unless these free distributions are stopped...

I got ur point! But wat if MS itself doesn't want the free distributions to be stopped and if piracy brings it more income and keeps its business going/growing? Here's a nice explanation that saves my typing!

sorry!! i am going offtopic.... but

@hittheswitch you crack it and then see what will happen... if you crackers have this much dare why not to admit it with your address and other detail to M$, so that you can face some court realted things... and pay some fines for Deploying counterfeit software..
lets do it hittheswitch.... common..

do you have this dare... if not then stop doing this...
