MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
Apple is expected to launch its next generation Leopard operating system (OS) in April, but according to industry sources, the release of the new OS will be postponed to October to allow Apple to make Leopard support Windows Vista through an integrated version of its Boot Camp software.
The sources pointed out that the launch delay is not due to software design problems with Leopard but instead is attributed to Apple's plan to have its new OS support Windows Vista through an integrated version of Boot Camp.

Re: MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
It's originally reported by DigiTimes.
Look at their previous track record with the Mac platform.
It's not even worth reporting anything DigiTimes posts.

Edited Post after Raboo's warning
As far as I know, Boot camp is just a software which can be installed on top of an existing OS, so it should not be hard for Apple to relese Leopard with Boot camp of WinXP only & after some months relese Bootcamp update for Vista. Maybe then they can change those DVDs in the retails package for new files too.
This is not a compelling reason to delay leopard.

^^^^ No fight man. but yeah, you have a point which even i was trying to say. Actully I said this point only
__________
I guess ARStechnica is legit with there claims, right

One more tip we got regarding Leopard, is that InputManager plugins are no longer allowed. That's right... no more little hacks from anybody besides Apple. No more Apple menu hacks. No more Safari plugins. (InputManager is not exactly the same as APE, by the way.) "Apple isn't really broken up about it since InputManagers were often used for nefarious purposes anyway," our sources said, but the loss of InputManager control will break a lot of shareware and commercial software that currently makes use of that control.
|
Means even more closed MacOS X. So much for giving options for users & backward compabitility. Users can no longer install many plugins in safari etc like before.

Re: MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Business 2.0 has issued a correction and has apologized for spreading the Leopard delay rumor.
http://blogs.business2.com/apple/200...leopard_s.html
I guess people should grow up and stop making controversial comments. This applies to people on this forum, too.
Quote:
This has the ring of credibility, something that the Digitimes report that started this rumor, in retrospect, did not. Arnold Kim, the founder of MacRumors.com, has been keeping a score card on Digitimes over the past five years and this is how he calls it:
15″ MacBook in 2nd Quarter 2007 (2007) - Unknown
LED-Lacklit Apple Laptops (2007) - Possible
Apple Notebook with Robson Caching (2006) - Possible
AMD Apple Laptop (2006) - Wrong
Wireless iPods (2006) - Wrong
Apple 17″ Widescreen LCD (2006) - Wrong
2GB and 4GB iPod Shuffles (2005) - Partially True - 2GB and 4GB Nanos
Apple Widescreen iBook (2005) - Wrong
PowerBook G5 and iBook G5 (2005) - Wrong
Intel Mac Mini, iBook, iMac due June 6 2006 (2005) - Wrong
15.4″ Powerbook (2003) - Wrong
Wireless Apple Tablet (2003) - Wrong
Termination of 17″ iMac (2003) - Wrong
19″ iMacs (2002) - Wrong
Here are the stats:
14 rumors total. 1 True. 10 Wrong. 2 Possible. 1 Unknown. (link)
I regret having played a part in broadcasting the Digitimes report and have issued a correction

Rumor. Rumor. What happened to the DigiTimes rumor?
Even if they discard InputManagers, I'm sure they'll come out with another plugin system.

The exclusion of Inputmanagers is written at ARS technica which is quite legit about Apple news & rumers. Leopard is barely beta (you can tell us that, are u working on any "Top secret" features as said by Jobs last year) & this exclusion means now only Apple can relese plugins & there will be no third party plugins using this method. This is sure to break many old applications & people will have to either quit using the plugins or buy new ones (Unsanity anyone)

Re: MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
Why are you speculating before it is released. Wait until it is released, and then comment on a particular feature. That is what I'd advise, anyways.

Re: MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
It is not speculation about Inputmanagers. It is what the developers have told ARStechnica

Re: MAC OS UPDATE - Apple reportedly to postpone Leopard to support Windows Vista
Apple says Leopard will ship on time
Posted Mar 24th 2007 5:00PM by Scott McNulty
Michael Gartenberg, with Jupiter Research, called some folks at Apple in light of recent delay rumors surrounding Leopard, the next iteration of OS X. Unnamed people at Apple confirmed with Gartenberg that Leopard is still on track for a Spring release which gives Apple until late June to ship on time.
I just hope we get a firm shipping date from Apple soon, all this speculating is making me tired.
