Default 3D Berlin Included In Google Earth

Quote:
As you know, Google Earth is a downloadable application that allows users to view maps and other satellite imagery directly from the desktop of their computer. Today, Google announces an exciting add-on for the program that provides an incredible 3D view of Berlin, displaying well-developed panoramas. At this time, there are only 44.000 buildings from the city (10 percent of the Berlin buildings) but the images are totally amazing.

“Not
only that, but five of the buildings are available in the "highest resolution" with even interior details including the Reichstag Building (seat of the German Parliament), and the Olympic Stadium. The models were made possible with help by Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam and a spin-off called 3D Geo GmbH. It was developed by the State of Berlin through the Senate Department of Urban Development, the Senate Department for Economics, Technology, and Women's Affairs, and Berlin Partner GmbH,” Google Earth Blog reported.

In the past, Google announced Earth – SketchUp interoperability to allow users to design their own models of cities, building and streets using a simple 3D drawings application. Google SketchUp was especially acquired by Google to be implemented in Earth with the first result published today; and I must say they are really impressive. All the 3D designs are published on Google Warehouse, a website especially designed by the company to host all the drawings created by the users.

If you want to test the 3D Berlin, here's what you must do: download Google Earth from Softpedia using this link. After you have installed the downloadable application, you should get the file published on Google Earth Blog and insert it into the program. Open Google Earth, go to File and select the Open File option. Click on the 3D Berlin file and choose open. Then, you should be able to see a Temporary Location entitled 3D Berlin in the locations menu in Google Earth. Double click on it and you're ready to go.
