Cool AMD R600...the new monster...:)

R600XTX is no longer a mystery. Spies managed to snap a picture of the R600XTX, the top of the OEM line. The card is among the biggest thing that we ever seen in our lives and has a massive four heat pipe powered cooler.

Just look at the that cooler, it is massive and, believe it or not, the card is 12.4 inches long. It is a bit smaller than the biggest one of all time, that on the Geforce 7900 GX2.

12.4 inch?????

R600XL beomes the Radeon X2800XL with the same clocks, 512MB of GDDR 3 memory but 96 shaders. This one will sell for $400. /(low end)

The top card has 1024MB of 512-bit GDDR 4 memory working at 2200MHz. This card also has 128 Shaders just as many as Nvidia's G80 chip. It is made on a 80 nanometre marchitecture and it will sell for $600.

The R600XT becomes the Radeon X2800XT and this card will work with DDR3 memory. The clock speed won't be that dramatic. The card works at 600MHz core and 1800MHz memory. The memory is crippled to 256 bits and the card comes with 512MB of these precious clever circuits. It will sell for $500.

Though Nvidia is thoroughly working on its G80GL, a professional Quadro version of the G80, which should have additional video RAM, but lower clock frequencies, ATI's R600 micro-architecture and the PCB designs seem to be so flexible that the next six months will see an unstoppable flood of various products based on R600, R610 and R630 designs.

Lets see what nVidia has in it's bag

ATI isn't focusing only on the consumer market.

GPGPU (General Purpose Graphics Processing Unit) product codenamed FireStream/Stream Processor. This monster graphics board is said to incorporate no less than four gigabytes of dedicated video memory.

The powerful graphics board could pose some problems regarding requirements for 4X1024 Mbit GDDR-2/3/4 memory chips, as neither Samsung nor Qimonda can presently manufacture such modules. However, design documents specifically mention a 4GB version followed by one with "only" 2GB. ATI plans a special design for the 4 GB board, which does not involve tricks like putting a GPU on an ATX form factor motherboard and calling it a "graphics board." ATI is currently pondering on a 12” design for their mother of all GPUs.

This board will feature only one DVI connector telling us that it is not necessarily a pros only device. It will be interesting to see if ATI would be able to provide support for External CrossFire boxes that can be stacked up to ultimately deliver the supreme 3D performance
