Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
Isn't it blatantly obvious that Apple knew very well about the iPhone trademark belonging to Cisco and because they still announced their product to the world as the iPhone, they definitely have a game plan on hand? You are talking about a company led by the man who brought Google and Yahoo! to collaborate on the same project. He is the man who bent the dictatorial nature of the cell phone carriers in America and refused them any involvement with their product. He is the man who has a 'Reality Distortion Field'. I think Cisco is fighting a losing battle. I don't know how the issue will be settled but one thing is dead certain, the Apple iPhone will remain the Apple iPhone.

Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
It is exceedingly obvious that apple was aware of the name and product iPhone, they did the naming on purpose, what do they gain? multi million dollar publicity, that's publicity apple cant buy, they will happily pay cisco for lawsuit, now consider the news was hot all day on US local news and how much publicity they got for the product, apple sure knows how to play the cards.

Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
actually apple does NOT need publicity for their new products. when they release their designing marvels it atomatically becomes headlines. By d way its Cisco who has a habit to acquire a new firms every week.. may be they will take over apple.. LOL

Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
kniwor, u r correct. This is the only way, apple makes publicity.....there is nothing called negative publicity.
A few days later, Apple will have to pay Cisco the money, they will, cos by then iPhone would have become famous already. Looks like Apple should create worthwhile product like iPod insted of just creating the hype like Mac mini (was supposed to take over the world, such a low cost Mac alternative to PC, but sold a few only) or iPhone

grow up dude, this publicity compares to nothing, an iPhone will probably be announced in the "tech" section of news, but the day this happened, it was on US radio/news all day long.

Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
No wonder some people will stay where they are. It was funny reading some comments in this thread. But, I guess, knowledge of economics pays off at some point in time. It's better than working for peanuts
In the real world, these companies are represented by the best lawyers on the planet. Each comment, each decision, each word that a company executive says is thoroughly researched into. So, if an Apple executive says the lawsuit is silly, you can be rest assured it is not a comment made by a silly kid sitting on his sofa, but a well thought, and a well targeted piece of communication.
And it's not just with Apple, it's also true about every firm worth its salt, with the honorable exception of Sony, of course. Sony execs, unfortunately, have the 'foot in the mouth' disease.

Re: Cisco to sue Apple on iPhone name
Even Cisco knows that they have very little chance with the case, which is why they are being so 'lenient' with Apple. They are practically ready to agree on any terms Apple wants. But, of course, I am sure Apple's lawyers have it all worked out and they told Steve Jobs to just go ahead with the name and that they'll take care of the legal issues.
Here's a fun fact though, I saw a print advertisement of a Linksys wireless modem today, which is owned by Cisco, and they were using an Apple MacBook Pro in the advertisement, like most other advertisements and movies (DataOne ads, Anthony Kaun Hai?, etc.).
