ATTENTION: FireFox 3 Alpha1 - Gran Paradiso Released

Mozilla group has released the first alpha build of the well known open source browser that is based on a modified gecko engine. The Mozilla Group wants to release the final version in March 2007. Today there will be a nightly build that survives the acid 2 test.

Firefox 3 should contain so many changes that it wont be able to run on Windows 95,98,NT 4, 2000 or ME.

There is also a build called Minefield it has the same build number, but an other name.

Just stay with Firefox 2. Currently version 3 is not for people who *hate* betas. Hell this is not even beta...it is Alpha. Just run your stable version and enjoy

Why its directly 3..Why not 2.1,2.2, or 2.5... Coz firefox had a version 1.5 before releasing 2... Even Winamp once did this..it skipped 4. From Winamp 3 to Winamp 5.

Both versions, 2.0 (and 2.x) and 3.0 (alpha & Betas) will be released & supported simultaneously

In fact v3.0 is under development and it'll take time to be released as final version.

I tried the alpha build. It needs a lot of work. However, the optimized daily dev builds are more stable than Alpha 1.

Its not like they are going to kill version 2 instantaneously. There will definitely be lots of more releases in series 2. Currently they are even supporting series 1 so killing series 2 is simply out of question. Support for series 1 will go out on till April 24, 2007. Version 3 just means an absolutely new branch with highly improved gecko engine...having lots of new features. On the other hand series 2 will be maintained for security, performance and will have continued refinement going in it. That is (and should) how professional software companies work

they should 1st check or make 2.0 error FREE ...... & then start with 3.0

Developers have NOT STOPPED developing 2.0 series. Bugs found and performance enhancements will keep going in the series...just that new features will be introduced in 3.0 branch. What is wrong with that?
