Adobe Reader 8 relesed
Finally, Adobe has done a commandable job with the relese of final version of Adobe reader 8. Not only it's way much faster then Adobe reader 7, it's also Fully Windows Vista complient, & uses it's components & UI theme
U can download it directly from here 20 MB
here is a screenshot

With the new UI, U an finally customise the toolbar as u like, even place some functions given in menus to the top Toolbar. For incresing the reading pane size,, press F9 to hide the menubar or F4 to hide the page bar
The download is quite big for a PDF reader, Foxit reader is available for less then 2 MB, but it also lacks features, such as pdf form filler & 3D content, inbuilt video/audio. Depends on your choice, Adobe reader, if u use the features or Foxit reader if u r simply looking for a simple PDF Reader, to read PDF with text & images only which is the type of documents found most.
U can download FOXIT reader from here
Edit : If you're having trouble installing this under vista ,getting some error about Temp folder permission or free space
run the setup... it will uncompress the install files to here:
C:/Users/username/appdata/LocalLow/Netopsystems/temp/Acrobat Reader 8.0
copy that Acrobat directory to somewhere else (like your desktop) and run the setup from there.
To Speed up Adobe reder 8
1) Install it, then go to edit->preference & configure it accordingly. it might install a few more components with the Windows installer, let it install those
2) Go to Adobe reder\Reder\plug_ins\ & backup all the plugin & empty the folder. To run adobe reader properly, mostly u will only need the following plugins
Escript, EWh32, HLS, IA32, Search & Search5. Rest are required for their own functioning, like playing embeded media, or embeded colloboration etc, which u will hardly needLast edited by brutality9k; 06-12-2006 at 11:36 AM.

Re: Adobe Reader 8 relesed
Oh comon, memory usage concerns, most of us now have 512 mb or 1GB RAM, which is sitting idle, it is not a concern anymore i would say. CPU usage is indeed high when scrolling pages etc, which has to be solved
Try opening a 150 Page PDF book in Foxit, even that chokes

Re: Adobe Reader 8 relesed
hmm.
IMO, Foxit Reader is still better with resources as compared to Adobe Reader. You are a living magnet. What you attract into your life is in harmony with your dominant thoughts.

Re: Adobe Reader 8 relesed
NVIDIA & adobe have joined forces to provide 2D acceleration in Adobe reader 8, with a Geforce 6 or above graphics supporting SM3.0
Go to edit->preference, under page display tab, under the section rendering, select "Use 2D GPU acceleration" & click ok

Re: Adobe Reader 8 relesed
ya it is the first time when I felt that Adobe can be fast. 2D Graphics acceleration is a great feature
