Cool Geforce 8800 series out in the market

http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/11/08/geforce_8800/

Out in the international market, but still not available in India. However, it must be costing a bomb in India. Hopefully prices of 7800 and 7900 series cards will fall.

I did not find a similar thread after searching the forum informing of the same news. Mods please delete/lock this if it jas already been posted.

Default Nvidia Has Lanuched The King Of The Kings.Geforce 8800.

NVIDIA HAS LANUCHED THE KING OF HE KINGS.GEFORCE 8800.

The new microchip, has a retail price tag of $599 for the high-end version, and Nvidia said it expects to sell tens of thousands of them in November alone.

Nvidia also said that for the first time it is releasing a set of software tools that will let programmers tap the chip to handle non-graphics related tasks such as crunching data about weather patterns or geological formations.

Apart from the number of transistors, the chip also benefits from a new "unified" design. Previous chips have used a "linear" design in which parts of the chip are devoted to specific tasks. If one kind of task is not required, that part of the chip lies idle.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX and the GeForce 8800GTS. The new architecture will be DX10, as we already know, and incorporate shader model 4.0 compatibility.

The chip boasts more than 600 million transistors, double the amount of Nvidia's previous high-end chip, and more than twice that of the top-of-the-line computer processor from Intel Corp.

The GTX will be the top of the line graphics card for NVIDIA with reference cards clocked at 575 MHz core and 900 MHz on the 768 MB GDDR3 memory. The GTX cards will have 384-bit memory interface according to DailyTech with a whopping 86 GB/s of memory bandwidth.

The GTX is also said to have 128 unified shaders clocked at 1350 MHz with a theoretical texture fill rate of about 38.4 billion pixels per second.

The 8800GTS is said to run at a slower 500 MHz core speed with 640 MB of GDDR3 memory at 900 MHz. The GTS memory interface is reduced to 320-bit for overall memory bandwidth of 64 GB/s.

GTS cards will also have 96 unified shaders at 1200 MHz compared to the GTX’s 128 shaders at 1350 MHz, both cards will be HDCP compliant with DVI-D, VIVO and HDTV outputs. Both cards are said to be dual slot.

We can fully expect to see higher speeds on the clock of the actual production cards from the likes of XFX and other manufacturers as well. If you have your eye on a pair of these beasties for Christmas, I suggest you put a new power supply on the list as well. It seems that for an SLI pair you will need at least 800.

The Windows Vista era won't officially begin until Microsoft finally ships its new operating system next January, but PC game enthusiasts will get next-gen PC graphics performance a few months early because Nvidia is ready to ship its new GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS video cards. The GeForce 8800 series GPUs are designed specifically to support , but the chips also feature a new unified shader architecture that will speed up performance in DirectX 9 games on Windows XP.
Nvidia is only shipping the high-end GeForce 8 GPUs for the holiday season. The GeForce 8800 GTX has a $600 MSRP, and the slightly less-powerful GTS will retail for $450. [Update 11/9/06: Online retailers are currently selling the cards for $50 over MSRP.] Instead of the usual 512MB or 256MB memory sizes, the GTX has 768MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 900MHz and the GTS has 640MB clocked at 800MHz.
