Looks like another attempt my MS to assure that antivirus firms Norton & McAfee
that Kernel-locking won't hinder the activities of AV softwares!!! This time MS seems
to have to paid Kaspersky to say this!!

MS will face another antitrust case if it goes ahead with 'Kernel-locking' in Vista!!
Sure MS blocks other softwares. They did the same in the past, do it at present &
in the future!!
Need more proof?? Blocked Netscape by including IE integrated with Windows O.S,
Included ZIP extracting program with Windows XP(blocked WinZip), and now blocking
Security programs from Norton & others.

They blocked Netscape ? No they didn't block it ,Netscape was not a free browser , Ms included IE with the OS and didn't seperately charge for it this led to the downfall of Netscape. Netscape's demise was a central component of Microsoft's antitrust trial, according to it bundling Internet Explorer free with Windows was an illegal monopolistic business practice.

Versions 1.0 and 2.0 of IE were vastly inferior in almost every way to contemporary versions of Netscape Navigator; IE 3.0 (1996) began to catch up to its competition; IE 4.0 (1997) was the first version that looked to have Netscape beaten, and IE 5.0 (1998) with many bug fixes and stability improvements saw Navigator's marketshare plummet below IE for the first time.

Netscape Navigator 3.0 came in two versions, Standard Edition and Gold Edition. The latter consisted of the Navigator browser with mail and news readers and a web page WYSIWYG composition tool integrated into it. The extra functionality only made the software program larger, slower, and more prone to crashes, and the decision to integrate all these features together was widely criticized.
Same with winzip , I dont remember windows ever blocking winzip .Winzip is nearly dead today because of Winrar.

Need more proof - Just check the 'QnA' section of this forum. "Please Help my Windows XP
PC infected with virus!!!", "My Windows is crashing!!", "Help, remove a virus in XP!!!"
There are hundreds of such posts.

@Indyan, There's nothing wrong in including a browser (IE) with Windows. But MS
did a very smart thing to eliminate Netscape. They integrated IE with the Windows O.S!!!
So that you can't uninstall IE!!! That's what the antitrust case is all about. "Users must
have the choice to use whichever browser they want to!!!" MS forces it's users to use IE!!!
@Ruthless is right!! I also read that in Digit mag. Windows O.S needs protection from viruses
& spyware, malware, worms, trojans etc., So you must install a good firewall & antivirus,
antispyware etc.,
