The website iMore on Thursday claimed to have a "reliable" source who said Apple is planning to release a smaller version of its coveted tablet in October for $200 to $250. The Cupertino tech giant is looking to price its so-called iPad mini aggressively to "leave absolutely no space for competitors," the site reported.

The iPad mini will be 7 inches and identical in every other way to the current 9.7-inch iPad. It is even expected to sport a 2048-by-1536 resolution display, just like the new iPad.

Cupertino is said to be keeping costs down on the mini tablet by giving it less storage capacity than its larger counterpart. The $200 iPad mini model will provide 8GB of storage, just like the base iPod touch, which also currently sells for $200. The current entry-level iPad model comes with 16GB of storage.

It would give tough competition to the current budget tablets. Unless the rumoured Nexus tablet is good enough, whatever little share Android has in the tablet market will also be taken by Apple.

reasons
1)IT is APPLE not Akaash tablet
2)200$=10000 rs so except it to sell at 12-13k
Okay
for 13k an apple device with an 7 inch screen and a 2048-by-1536.
3)An apple ipod-3.5 inch screen-with 8 gb sells at around 10-12k
So this is impossible

Yeah,even Steve Jobs earlier had dismissed why they didn't push for a 7" tablet as it completely ruined the tab experience.
Also Apple never makes a product if they there is low profit margin which will be in case if they do decide for a 7" tab.
So its better to have this news with a pinch of salt.

I meant for 13k such a nice product by Apple is Not believable.
But an enlarged Ipod(with 5.5 inch screen) and acceptable specs is believable.

theres like 5GB on the iCloud, so memory space is not so imp
neither is the size really theres only demand for such devices because of a prolem with pixel density, its not really a screen size issue

when the pixel density catches up, the larger screens will be an eyesore

Yeah exactly.Yea even if its true 8 Gb really? Apple can i store my songs?thats like 2-3 gigs.Out of 8 gigs 7.5/7.4 is usable.5-6 HD apps/games will eat up another 4 gigs.
