The company also invented the first digital camera in 1975, which it shelved because it would threaten its lucrative film business, Perez said in an interview in March.
Inventors of digital camera got blown off by their own invention. LOL

It is not unbelievable, many of us film buffs saw this coming a long time back, the day Panavision launched its Genesis camera. Kodak earns more money from movie production than their consumer production. Also they are not shutting down its just filing for bankruptcy protection. The company will be restructured.

As of current pioneers in digital film production are

RED Camera Company with their new Red Epic X cameras
Panavison Genesis
Sony F Series
Arri Alexa

3D is the force driving this trend as film cameras can't shoot at higher framerates, also they are heavier....

Digital Cinematography is the future, many cinematographers have dismissed digital because of its low resolution compared to film, but all that changed when Red launched Epic X ( shoots at 5K )...

There are so many films being shot with this camera

1. Spiderman
2. Prometheus ( Yay )
3. The Hobbit
4. Resident Evil
..... the list goes on....
