Default (Bad news) AMD: It Won't Be About 'AMD vs. Intel' Anymore

AMD: It Won't Be About 'AMD vs. Intel' Anymore

AMD is planning to back out from the Desktop Processor market. Bad news for consumers.
Competition is what drove prices down and also kept processors developing. I just hope Intel doesnt relax and lay back on R&D and starts to sky-rocket prices.

Read this:-

AMD still committed to x86 | The Verge

Quote:
AMD is a leader in x86 microprocessor design, and we remain committed to the x86 market. Our strategy is to accelerate our growth by taking advantage of our design capabilities to deliver a breadth of products that best align with broader industry shifts toward low power, emerging markets and the cloud.

Frankly speaking, this will actually be good for us if they stop chasing Intel at desktop segment, there's no need at all. They already have a very good chipset in 990FX, their APU strategy is just right for most consumers IMO, BD has done power gating and turbo core right. There are some rough edges which need to be ironed out (like power consumption of BD under load), but that's it. They have happily given away the fastest single card position to nVIDIA in graphics card segment since 4800 days and still giving users absolute bang for buck and sales are buoyant too. All they need to replicate the same strategy for CPUs instead of making childish comics and all.

And the price increase at EU & NE is primarily due to ensuing festive season, nothing to do with AMD's policy.
