Default The First DirectX 11 Game - BattleForge

A new generation of graphics... an old game.

DirectX 11 is heralded as to usher in yet another new generation of GPU goodness, especially for games. New features such as tessellation will enable artists to make smoother and less blocky models in 3D games. DX11 is also better able to take advantage of CPUs with multiple cores.

Games aside, the biggest addition of all could be the compute shader, which will finally bring in the GPGPU that’s been all the buzz lately.

So right now, we've been waiting for the first DirectX 11 supporting game to come by to wow us – and now it's finally here.

A new patch for the EA free-to-play fantasy card game BattleForge enables DirectX 11 functions and promises smoother framerates along with new graphical effects on DX11 systems with DX11 hardware.

Of course, Windows 7 has yet to officially launch, and DX11 support for Windows Vista hasn’t yet been released. For hardware, only the recently launched ATI Radeon HD 5800 series support DX11, and those are just hitting stores now.

While we're glad that DX11 software is here, we're still waiting for that killer app that'll make us upgrade.

The gains on the HD5850 are not significant on this game as i saw in some reviews posted in the GPU News Channel. DX11 does not make a significant increase in FPS. I think the game is not fully optimised yet.

damn to these stupid @$$#**** and **** those who supports them.dx11 should be super flop!!

in the name of technology these @##$*** are doing business by fooling the fools.on second thought i think they are doing the right thing.

no game except very few has even taken the full advantage of dx9 leave dx10.

whatever makes you say that ? most games released today use the atmost of dx9 and add a bit of visuals in dx10.

name some i will reply accordingly.in that way i think i will make myself more clear.

btw read my statement again.

and no offence meant but i dont type things just by going on through some forums or by reading others reviews.there is something called experience.

leave that btw i have enough evidence to prove it and that made me type that.even the people who are promoting dx11 knows what they are doing.

dx10 still is in its evolving stage it has not been used properly till now due to various limitations.

in short it took almost 4-5 years for the developers to utilise the properties of dx9 completely.dx10 does not even comes to the picture properly.
therefore is there any necessity of dx11 now.

I agree with quan here. DirectX 10 isn't used extensively these days. Even now.. we can see DX9 doing very well. There is no necessity for haste. What is the use of getting a DX11 Hardware without even having hand full of games and apps to squeeze the beast? MS should think about it. These are just publicity stunts.

Heck..what is the position of Dx 10.1 then?

What is the situation if a person purchases DX11 card say HD5870 thinking that he have most recent gfx solution. In the very next day.. nVidia releases DX12 cards and another person purchases it thinking that he has the future proof card. And the process repeats. Companies should think about their customers not about their rivals.

What exactly do you want me to name ?

i'd be more than happy to hear more specific details as to why you think dx9 is not used to its max potential today.

Well , by experience , if you mean personal opinion , i wont ask any more. But if you are suggesting that u've done more work than other reviewers and/or drawn different conclusions from the results, then post them.Readers will be more than glad to see them.

necessity of dx11 ? it brings so many features along with it. Tessellation , free AA , more shader programmability . .i hardly think these are "publicity stunts".

You know what they are doing? They are irritating peoples like us.We are tired of seeing worthless expensive graphic cards and crappy games who rely mostly on visuals. My friend is saving money(unofficially-without telling parents) so he can buy a decent DX10 card like 4850.If I show this news to him,he will blow that money on PS2 instead.
No,Thank you.I am happy with CS,Q3A and UT2004.

yeah you got it a bit. because its my personal opinion and also i have some proofs. on that basis i am typing these. but unfortunately posting it here will make people sleep as it will go long. still ...i will post as soon as i get time because i dont have much time to type those now.

nevertheless i wont dissapoint you i will try to make it clear within a brief.

remember what i am typing here is just a summary.

well 'pulicity stunt' is completely a wrong word and i never used it and never mentioned its a 'stunt'.

allright its a plot to sell windows7.thats it in a short and simple sentence.

that limitation which i mentioned before.windows itself is a big limitation for this.
vista was not that much succesfull. therefore they came up with a plan to attract public to get windows7.windows7 is better than vista i admit and there was no need to do this dx11.dx11 does not have any huge improvement over dx10.
dx11 is a techically modified and enhanced version of dx10.
microsoft says dx11 will make better use of dual core cpu's.then what was dx10 doing? does that mean dx10 has flaws.there is no answer for this.
btw ati is a partner(no literal meaning) of microsofts xbox360 as they made its gpu.

rest will be a controvery here......

i dont want to blame anybody.just think....will try to post the full view later.

^^ all of you guys have got your points............

1st off all Directx 10 and 10.1 was M$ business policy to bump up the sell of vista.
But vista had not gained too much popularity in gamers community. So M$ introduced DX11 with the promise to support many new features and improvements. Even it's a policy to bump the sell of win7 as M$ has not released DX10 for XP and they probably will not release DX11 for vista.

But win7 itself is a sold OS indeed but aprt from that many people is happy with their XP as it supports virtually all latest games except HALO 2. But even I doubt whether DX11 gonna be that much useful for gamers. As you can play almost all games in DX9C. only few games supports DX10 and 10.1 and I doubt even fewer of them will support DX11 only.

But for the hardware read GPU and gfx cards part it's not that only new features but it's related to huge performance boost and improvements. You can play Many games on XP which has DX9C but DX9C cards were phased by the performance improvements of 2nd generation DX10 gpu's as they are cheap also. just think of the performance level of ATi Radeon 1900XT and HD4850 and Nvidia's 7800GT compared to 9800GT.

This is going to happen with DX10 and DX11 gpu's too. DX11 gpu's will phase out DX10 gpu's with huge performance boost in future. We have seen die shrinking with DX10 gpu's ( compare them with DX9c gpu's ). DX10 gpu introduced us with GPU encoding in consumer level which is very important.DX11 gpu's has even more smaller fabrication process and high performance mem like GDDR5.

But at the end of the day which thing is really important to a true blue avid gamer is - great gameplay experience not in only visual section but more in a better and solid story line with great control system and for a game the real important thing is -it's ability to entertain it's player. So that's why you see games like crysis and super mario and even some flash and old arcade rom based games co-existing side by side.

How many times gamers will update their hardware?
Many will turn to consoles like PS2(It is still HOT) and pirate games there because they have emptied their pocket for console/s.

Even after the third birthday of DX10.. There are only very few games that will point blank you to get a DX10 hardware. I think DX9 will have 3-5 more years of run.
