Default Chinese vendors face virtual ban in future tenders of BSNL!!

The controversy over selection of Chinese vendor Huawei for BSNL''s mega-GSM tender in the southern region, appears to backfire on the Chinese companies as the DoT has advised BSNL to refrain from the use of equipment supplied by Chinese companies in future contracts.

“In view of the pronounced security concerns in respect of Chinese vendors, procurement of resources from these vendors, particularly in sensitive regions would not be in the interest of national security. “Therefore, resources should not be procured from Chinese vendors for deployment in sensitive regions. The sensitive regions are defined as States having international border with China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan,” said a DoT communication to BSNL.

This implies that the DoT has virtually directed BSNL not to consider Chinese telecom gear except for in the South.

Western based Intelligence security analysist suggested Huwaei which is indirectly funded by the Chinese Military wing has embeded malacious firmware in their Telecom products resulting the users Machines (computers, cellphones) become jumbie ..Recents attacks on Government of India websites are also taken into consideration..
Now the present Government is not going to lean on Red comrades, DOT move is on expected lines..But BSNL is asking DOT Humei is also supplying same instruments to Private players.. Wouldn't it also affect the security of the country..

Good Question!!!

South India may not share a "physical" border with China. So what? Does the internet respect borders? This is the problem with our politicians !

BSNL was too much into chinese products. The modems, data cards, cables, lot of equipments in exchanges - everything Chinese.

Not just BSNL, but everyone go for Chinese things Killing the manufacturing sector in India.

Not related to this, but read in a newspaper - Chinese mats are becoming popular and that becomes a serious threat to coir products in Kerala. I am not against China or the people out there. But this is really worrying.

More news for your eyes only

In May, 2008, in a major deviation from its earlier policy, the government-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) allowed those telecom vendors who did not have manufacturing facility in India to participate in its tender for 93 million GSM lines. Some BSNL officials claimed that this was to make Chinese majors Huawei eligible for bidding in the single largest telecom tender in the world.
This was the first GSM tender in which any Chinese telecom vendor participate without under threat of being disqualified.

Actually BSNL was being used as sacrificing lamb to satisfy the local CPM leaders who has deep rooted ties with their RED mother land.

Well, not everything out of China sucks. Of course, with their uber-production capabilities, raw materials, etc.. they are posing a threat to indigenous commodities.

Still, when you can get a decent WiFi router for around 1k IRs, chinese products are still something you find enticing.
