Post Zotac GTX 260² (Core 216) at INR. 10,053.00

Ok, +4% VAT. But still, this is "THE" best bang-for-buck card right now. Annihilates everything within the price range, and many above the range as well.

Check it out: http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?productID=6023

^ Just a note: This is not a factory overclocked card, but it can be tweaked to a good extent. It goes head on with the ATi 4870 1GB DDR5 card (my present card), and reviews say it beats red in many games. (Check reviews for this specific model).

^ True. 10,053 only. There's no card within that range which can this one. NONE.

What does the square sign above GTS 260 mean ? Is it dual GPU...?

Can someone post comparison with 4870 please...? Or a link should help..!!

that means it is the second edition of GTX260 and it has 216 SP's. The second edition was released to compete with HD4870.

Like DesiiBond said, it's the second edition of GTX 260. The 1st release had 192 processing cores, the second one (this squared one) has 216 cores, which increases its processing power considerably.

Squared doesn't have anything to do with dual GPU. It's just a branding thing for Zotac. E.g. EVGA simply calls their 2nd edition GTX 260's "c216".

Btw, it beats the 4870 1GB in many games.

Here's a complete review comparing the two:

TOP 10 GAMES: GTX 260 (c216) vs HD4870 1GB

As of now, in India, the cheapest 4870 1GB you can get is for 14,000. And this one is 4k cheaper, with better performance in most of the 6 games in the above review. A much better deal. Plus you get better drivers than ATi usually comes up with, plus you can overclock the GTX260 fairly well. Personally, I'm hugely in favor of this card over the 4870 1GB.

^^^^ Thanks for the answer pal. I was just going to seal my deal for 4870 by selling 3870X2 that i have presently.

Now i think i will go ahead with GTX 260² .... You made my day..!

I just hope this battle does not get over anytime soon! At least till my PC upgrade time. LOL.

^ Rest assured it won't. Prices of these cards are going to reduce a bit more, if I'm making realistic guesses. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a GTX 260 selling for 8-8.5k ish a month or two from today.

Imagine what two of these, in SLI, amounting to about 17-18k would do? Easy guess there.

F@CT remains however, that abroad HD4870 1GB is same price or even lower. Only nVidia priced its GPU with US prices in India. I am happy for that.

Shall I consider upgrading now over my 8800 GTS 512 SLI? Will it give a better performance? Right now I can max out all games at 1680x1050 except Crysis and GTA IV.

@Sunny, when your 8800GTS SLI couldn't play 60% of games at high settings, then consider upgrade. Right now, 8800GTS SLI is good enough for another year. Then an upgrade will be much more worthy than now!!

@sunny: yes if and only if you can sell 8800GTS cards for Rs. 5,000 each atleast.

GTX260(core216) performs as good or better as 8800gts sli in most cases.

Tht'll be possible if he has the GTS 512 parts, not the GTS 320/640M cards.

Well, stay with 8800GTS, atleast till 32nm CPU's and DX11/40nm GPUs come.

He has GTS 512 if I remember right.

The upgrade is definitely worth it because no performance is lost, instead, he breaks even but saves on electricity and avoids Linux SLI issues which he was plagued with.

8800GTS 512 is theoritically same as 9800GTX[not GTX+].[like 8800GT 512~9800GT 512].

So i dun think a GTX260 is much of an improvement over 8800GTS 512 SLI. Surelly single GPu has its advantage, but then again it dun seems the right time to upgrade to GTX260.
Maybe a GTX 275 will show gr8 jump in performance.

I still think that ATI's upcoming 49nm GPu will kill most current GPUs around. look at 4770[new low~mid range cad] which beats their own older HD 4850[older mid~high range] almost. So HD 5xxx with 40nm shud be quiet a beast.

I'm not concerned about Linux mate. It's all gaming that matters!

As I told you, gaming makes ZERO DIFFERENCE for most practical purposes. Yes the GTX260 has higher FPS but not high enough to make you buy it for FPS alone.

The only realistic benifits with HIGH victory margins over 8800GTS G92 SLI come in:

1. higher performance in games and OSes where SLi scaling is not good.
2. Support for CUDA/PhysX
3. Lower power consumption.
