iPhone WAS the best touchphone ever released. Actually, its more like the ONLY PROPER touch phone released till date which can be REALLY touched.
But personal experience tells that once the initial hype over the touchscreen is over, you tend to get pinched by the acute lack of free apps or a keyboard.

Not till one has access to EDGE, and free IM tools like fring. And iPhone is not for people who want loads of free apps. Most of the free ones available via App Store are crApps anyways.
