Reliance announces world’s largest customer experience programme
GSM service to be available nationwide in over 11,000 towns through 2,000 exclusive retail stores and over 1 million retailers
Fastest network launch covering 1 billion people within 11 months
Project 6 months ahead of schedule. Reliance completing in 15 months what other operators have taken 15 years to complete
State of the art next generation GSM network with digital voice clarity and India’s first nationwide enhanced EDGE for fast internet access
Reliance’s No. 1 CDMA network is now supported by India’s strongest GSM network. With this, Indians will have the unique proposition of being able to choose between two nationwide world class networks
Mumbai, December 30, 2008: Reliance Communications will, over the next few days, launch a nationwide enhanced GSM service covering over 1 billion people.
A launch covering 1 billion people in 24,000 towns and 600,000 villages is by far the widest one-time launch. In India, this coverage is being rolled out by the industry over 15 years since launch. In comparison, Reliance's network has covered a billion people within 11 months, having received start-up GSM spectrum only in January 2008. Despite the scale, the project is running 6 months ahead of schedule.
Compared to aging mobile networks prevalent today, Reliance's new 21st Century Network brings a number of innovations that our customers will experience over the next few days:
* Next-gen electronics for super digital voice clarity
* Seamless coverage on major railway routes, national and state highways through dedicated mobile towers
* Access to a Reliance owned fibre network for unlimited capacity - both in India and overseas, resulting in unmatched quality on local, STD or ISD calls
* Nationwide enhanced EDGE for fastest internet access speeds
* Stutter-free video capability including 16 TV channels, sports updates as well as access to popular video sharing websites like Youtube
* Widest R-World mobile content offering entertainment, music, news, cricket, bollywood, maps and search
* One-click set-up and access to email and social networking offering communication convenience of a PC
With the launch of its enhanced GSM service, Reliance's customers will be able to use the widest range of over 250 handsets and devices compared to any other operator in India. Reliance's customers can now roam on more networks globally in more than 200 countries - offering the widest choice available to customers in India.

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
11,000 towns is really awesome... releiance is capable of doing anything .. this is one example ...
also as the article said..."Fastest network launch covering 1 billion people within 11 months
Project 6 months ahead of schedule. Reliance completing in 15 months what other operators have taken 15 years to complete"
is really true...
and with current networks begging for money on auspictious days for sms... reliance has done something useful...
if i get good coverage and good gprs/edge price, i will surely change to reliance...

Tariffs will not be high, but can't say if the service will be good. The infrastructure would be shared by CDMA as well GSM services , so rapid expansion will also be possible.

Not true. Other operators started from scratch, Reliance is already having presence in most parts of India in form of CDMA network. Just an extension.

Whatever Reliance does, we cannot put our complete trust on them.

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
The entry of Reliance means competition in the field of tariffs only, not speed or CC. Soon we may be seeing handset+lifelong connection combo for just Rs. 300 from Reliance GSM.

tower erection is not included coz they would use the existing ones .. but even that too is awesome ... covering 11,000 towns within short period or say from the start itself...

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
Would be interesting to see for which technology they prefer to put more weight to get 3G spectrum. If they give priority to GSM, existing CDMA customers may feel cheated and on the other hand GSM is more lucrative for service providers. And it would be unfair to other providers if they get license for both.

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
The essence of Reliance is not in its infrastructure but the pricing that it comes with.
Cdma had a good run with its pricing model, though debatable ,it made sure that every person came close to owning a mobile.
What pricing it goes for GSM is for us to see?.
Moreever its the internet service they give on Gsm ,is the thing that has me excited.

reliance prices for those using cellphones without any special plans are too much compared to many other atleast in Maarashtra and Mumbai circles.

Reliance has already "Smart" GSM service here in orissa. It was the first to launch a GSM network in orissa, followed by airtel.

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
Reliance was starting to feel stagnated in CDMA, therefore a move to GSM, also CDMA has very few reputed handset manufacturers. So highend customers preferred to move to GSM for advanced features.
It's this problem that has prompted Reliance to move to GSM
In the testing phase reliance gave it's employees sets, which were returned after bills were highly inflated and there were gross discrepancies in the bill.
So better watch for the bill at the end of the month

Re: Reliance Communications launches GSM service in over 11,000 towns all over India
Just read in CNBC that Reliance sold 1 Lakh GSM Connections on 5th Jan alone!!
I dont think they are selling..they are just giving away for free or for just Rs.25
I dont think these customers will stay with them for long..just use for 3 months and throw that SIM when free minutes are over..
