Nokia apologises for error in depicting Kashmir as part of Pak

In its statement the firm also added, all India maps on Nokia devices are sourced from Navteq Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Navteq Inc, (with its affiliates and subsidiaries) has all the necessary approvals for city maps in India as well as all international and coastal boundaries from the Survey of India, the National Survey and Mapping Organisation of the country under the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India.

Nokia currently offers maps of over 200 countries including India with over 15 million global points of interest. Nokia Maps are currently accessible online through the PC and/or a mobile device or come preloaded on select devices.

Nokia said that it would like to clarify that all India maps on Nokia devices are sourced from Navteq Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries. Navteq Inc, (with its affiliates and subsidiaries) has all the necessary approvals for city maps in India as well as all international and coastal boundaries from the Survey of India, the National Survey and Mapping Organisation of the country under the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of India.

The official statement issued by Nokia said, 'Nokia India, deeply regrets an inadvertent error in depicting certain international boundaries in an older version of its maps. This was as a result of a technical error that occurred in merging various map data layers. The error has been identified and corrected earlier this year. Nokia urges all its consumers to upgrade to Maps 2.0 and access the latest version of India maps. Consumers can also update the Maps application and the maps on their device by either accessing the maps website http://maps.nokia.com or Nokia map Loader or visiting a Nokia Care Center.'

While clarifying the issue the company said, it has always been sensitive to political and cultural issues and we take all measures to ensure that the cartographic representation of regions is accurate. Nokia is one of the few handsets manufacturers that provide Government approved maps of India. Nokia remains committed in providing accurate and official map data information to all our users.

Well this has been going on for years, Europeans and americans have always made maps with kashmir in pak.

Truely they all like pakistan a lot, because it keeps on screwing them.

^^^Nonsense, Its not about liking or not liking Pakistan. It is because according to the international law and national stand of a number of countries, the Indo Pak border is a disputed matter.

To be more precise, half of Kashmir is with Pakistan anyway so i don't see the point who is right or wrong over here..

well, this pic of india shows which parts of that region actually belong to india... very different from the maps i see here...this is on wikipedia..
