HD4870 for 199$
AMD
HD4870 512MB GDDR5 - - - - 199$ - - - Rs. 10,000
HD4870 1GB GDDR5 - - - - - - 239$ - - - Rs. 12,000
nVidia
GTX260-192shaders - - - - 199$-229$ - - - Rs. 10,000 - Rs. 11,500
GTX260-216shaders - - - - 239$-249$ - - - Rs. 12,000 - Rs. 13,000
NVIDIA refreshed GeForce GTX 260 with a 216 stream processor version that came with added shader compute power, while AMD responded with the 1 GB variant of the Radeon HD 4870. As on today, the company pricing for the Radeon HD 4870 has been set around US $199 for the 512 MB and $239 for the 1 GB variants. This roughly catches up with the pricing for GeForce GTX 260, with roughly $199~$219 for the 192 stream processor and $239~$249 for the 216 stream processor variant.

Quote:
ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, on Friday said it had slashed price of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 graphics card and said that at least one online store will have them available for end-users at $199 price-point for 512MB graphics card.
“The price of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 is dropping and we expect that the 512MB and 1GB boards should be available on Newegg today for around $199 and $239 respectively, offering and even more compelling value,” a spokesperson for ATI/AMD said.
At $199 price-point the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB graphics card becomes the top-performing performance-mainstream option on the market. Earlier AMD sold ATI Radeon HD 4850 at this price-point.
ATI is working hard to capture 50% of the market of standalone desktop graphics adapters. One of the ways to gain market share is to slash prices of final products. In Q3 2008 Nvidia Corp. commanded 60% of shipments with its GeForce chips, whereas ATI Radeon’s share was about 40%, according to market tracker Jon Peddie Research.
It should be noted that sales of ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB for $199 in a single online store in the USA can hardly change the game worldwide and allow ATI to boost its presence on the market considerably. Nevertheless, customers should keep an eye on various deals in other regions as well as ATI has just given a sign that it plans to offer its high-performance products at discount prices in the current environment of the economy on the globe.

Re: HD4870 for 199$
That's really sad man. Still we have to pay around $330 for a 4870.
I hope the prices in here will reduce a little bit too.

Re: HD4870 for 199$
Forget it. We'll never have the 4870 under 10k. This is India, and luxury items such as high-end graphics will never sell at cheap price points.

Re: HD4870 for 199$
Nah... not one month. I waited 2 years for an upgrade to a crappy rig I bought 3 years and a few months back. And I still use the same rig.

Re: HD4870 for 199$
HD4870X2
256-bit memory interface
2GB GDDR5(1GB per GPU)
2x800=1600 Stream Processors
800MHz Core Clock
55nm
HD5870(rumours)
512-bit memory interface
1GB GDDR5 or 2GB GDDR5 upto 7000MHz memory speed(courtesy HYNIX)
1000 Stream Processors
950Mhz Core Clock and higher
40nm
Now, after seeing everything above, with the core clock as high as 1GHz(expected in HD5870) and memory speed up from 3800MHz to max 7000MHz in HD5870, but only 200 Stream Processors extra, no probs, it still looks highly likely that HD5870 will give 2x+ the performance of HD4870 but I guess 1.2-1.4x of HD4870X23

Re: HD4870 for 199$
Yup, unless Rupee falls to Rs50+ against dollar. Otherwise, ~ 10k margin
