Capturing videos with my sony handycam dcr trv 285e

hey guys
i have a sony handycam model: dcr trv-285e.it has digital 8 capability.it uses tape for recording. when i try to transfer the videos to the pc, i am not getting good quality. i have used pinnacle studio 12, ulead video studio and windows movie maker. i get 640X480 with movie maker and ulead video studio. i get 720X480 with pinnacle studio. i need 1024X768 resolution fore the videos because 720X480 videos play very badly on the pc and on my 29'' TV. So guys could you please tell me a good capturing software which can capture videos from my camcorder at high resolutions.

You cannot get your desired resolution from a digital8 or even miniDV cam. The max. resolution it can give is 720/480(ntsc) or 720/576(pal). YOU need to get a HD cam for higher resolution.

And regarding your bad quality cam-to-pc transfer, HOW u transfer the videos ? through USB cable or Firewire/i-link/1394 cable ? Use firewire for transfering videos. It gives good quality over usb transfer. And If u need best result then buy a extra capture card.

bro you've to adjust the capture settings on those programmes,i've used ulead with a sony cam via usb and i never got your problem.Well you can't do anything about the resolution cuz DV stops at the resolutions given by gurujee.
When you capture,go to settings and set them to capture the video as DV.Mind you it'll take alot of space though because you're not compressing the audio/video streams...
