Default Seagate External HDD(40 GB) Not recognized

Hi Friends,

I've a 40 GB External HDD (Non-Branded). Its Seagate Momentus 4200.2 (40 GB) with "Gemini Casing". Its an old one and using it for years. I connect it via USB.

Now for more than a month I'm facing a problem. Whenever I Plug-in, I get a message "A porblem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware might not work properly". I tried all the USB ports in my PC and none of them is working.

But it work fine on other desktops and laptops except my PC. I use Windows XP SP3. I know its nothing to do with SP3 since the External HDD works with different desktops that has SP3.

Another point is Flash Drive / Pen Drive works fine in my PC.

Seagate Momentus 4200.2 (40 GB)
SN: 3LE02VCW
Model: ST9402113A

Does anyone have a Solution ?

Regards
Rafales

Check ur system's usb ports..try by inserting in different ones.. If possible get a friends usb extension cable or the whole usb extension set.. Additionally check the power cable...

Strange Problem. if pen drive is working that means port is not faulty.

Try manually installing USB mass Storage drivers from the device manager

I did everything but nothing works. Its the USB device driver issue but don't know how to solve it.

I'm planning to re-install the OS.
