explorer.exe eating more memory ! ! !

same as title ..... i have win xp with 512mb ram with avast & zone ...
from last week on, explorer.exe is eating more memory [30k, checked in task bar] .... it used 2 b just 12k @ startup & after some programms used, 20k
used ccleaner,tuneup utilities bt no use ...... even if nothing is opened it shoots up like anything .......

mine is 30MB and more.........what do you have SP2 or SP3?

no 3rd party softies .... its 68mb ..... & doubt abt this ......

cleaned wth ccleaner & regcleaner ...... nothing helped .....

evened scanned 4 viruses using avast .....

Third party theme is installed, login screen installed, boot screen installed, cursor, icons installed.

thats the reason..
i am also using Mac transformation pack in my winxp sp3.
though i have 2GB of ram, my size of explore.exe is 32mb..

Yes the same thing, if u r using any thing like that, then it can happen coz such things r resource hungry.
Try to find out if any process (integrated with explorer) is running at the same time.

I have similar type of problem
I'm using compaq c786tu model laptop with vista as operating system. Recently, observed with explore.exe that once i stats my computer- explorer will start consuming lot of memory keeps increasing till it is ended using task manager. Its usage goes upto 600M (2GB RAM laptop) and cpu usage is more than 50%.
Similar,increase in memory usage is observed in some other program like -
1)gom player
2) google talk
3) bit comet

I have scan laptop with nod32 -found nothing

Its because u got a virus in your system i used to have same problem that's y i know what ur going throuh. When u check the task manager it goes to 100 % or 85 or like that so get a good anti virus and check the system
