BOOT.INI Missing. HELP!!!

Yesterday I reformatted my hard disk. Installed Win XP SP2. After that I installed some softwares. I then it installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Both operating system were working fine. But after installing vista sp1, win xp disappeared from the boot screen. I then used Easy BCD 1.7.2 and downloaded NDETECT and ntldr. And copied them to the drive where I installed XP. And used easyBCD to make a new entry in the boot screen for win xp. Now when I select XP in the boot screen it shows Boot.ini missing NTDETECT Failed. Any body knows how to solve this. I am really confused. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Help

Boot from WinXP boot CD and goto Recovery Console. You will be prompted to choose your Windows XP Installation from a list (if more than one XP installation is installed) ... Choose your installation and enter the adminstrator password. You will get the command prompt. Now type fixboot, this will create a new boot.ini for your installation. (type help to get list of available commands and /? to get help for a particular command eg: fixboot /?). When finished type EXIT to restart your computer in normal mode.

Caution: This could make Vista unusable, you may have to follow similar steps for Vista, if it gets messed up.
