Default virus/antivirus solutionz

Hi guys,
I had this question posted at thinkdigit "experts" forum. I am not satisfied by the response so I post it here. Asking a question here is better than asking a so-called "expert".

I have Avast antivirus running on my XP SP2 laptop. I feel it is not detecting viruses all wells as I expected, It failed to detect Trojan-dropper.win32.Agent.rvv, Worm.win32.autorun.efq, trojan-ddox.win32.agent.bs infecting my system. Ashampoo Adaware2 detected them.

1) I know that installing additional antivirus can cause incompatibility. Is there any other antivirus that can be installed but runs only on demand?

2) I have Ashampoo Antispyware2, Lavasoft Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy installed on my system. Can I install Kaspersky Internet security (trial) without causing any incompatibility?

theres no need to have more than 1 AV + spybot + ad-aware.
my recommendation for a free AV is AVG free 8.0
read the review here.
also, for things like these, theres the official antivirus thread- The Official Antivirus Thread

Use kaspersky internet security 2009.It is very light on OS compared to 08 version. And you wont need to run any other security software IMO, you can trust it.IMHO it is lot better if you take a 1yr license key for KIS09

Thanks for posts and I checked the thread too.
I have seen several threads in different forums, I feel there is no complete agreement on which is the number one. Different users have different choices.
There used to be antivirus applications and now we have antispywares. The viruses/malwares/trojans/worms etc..whatever you call them; are now so much similar that we need an all-in-one application to detect all these types. There is no point in having an antivirus and an antispyware running seperately. As you can see I have so many running simultaneously on my system. That is because there isn't one that can detect all. Running many can cause incompatibility or browser crashes, besides they are heavy on resources.
OK, free is fine but paid ones should be best! Which is the one that can substitute all the free ones and yet be the best?
Please suggest based on your own experience only

"Paid" doesn't always mean "best". Still, if you want any paid solution, I'd recommend any Kaspersky product. From my experience, Kaspersky is great. They say that KIS 2009 is really light on system resources. I have to check it out. I think you better check it out too.

I installed kaspersky 2009 trial, and it got locked down saying trial expired even before I could test it (at least for one day).
Anyway, don't you think Rs. 2000 per year is a little too much?

Just because one has some antivirus and anti-spyware installed and did not encounter any problem, does not mean that his system is not infected. Your system could be infected and your trusted softwares many not be able to detect it. This is what happened with me. I relied heavily on Avast, spybot, Adaware and windows defender and thought my system is secure. It was only after I installed Ashampoo antispyware that 4 trojans were detected in my system.

Trust me, I know my PC is secure.
Sometimes, many paid security solutions detect keygens and cracks as trojans even though they're really quite safe. Check it out.

Buddy Trust me, I think theres none more skeptic than me

I've KIS, Adware, RemoveIT Pro, HijackThis on my PC.
A KIS scan(full system) is scheduled at 2 A.M everyDay, Adware runs every 2days, RemoveIT Pro every 2weeks.

But the result is still as same as the result when only KIS was there, i.e. CLEAN!!!!!

I am concerned about virus attack on my PC like u, i.e. no antivirus solution alone can be sufficient. But KIS proved me wrong.
Don't worry, we don't work for Kaspersky and not recommending u a crap solution. Give it a try, u'll b satisfied.

P.S. I used to b a fan(AC,blower etc) for Nod32 but KIS proved better in later days.

Ok guys, thanks for friendly replies. Well I also have spybot S&D.
To those who use Kaspersky IS 2009, how much do you pay for its services?

Anyone here uses Calmwin antivirus? Review please.

I made a thread (http://www.thinkdigit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96480) on protecting USB drives, there have been no replies at all. Mind checking it again?

Clamwin is not worth having on your PC man. Just remove it. Even Avast! is better than it.

For keeping any USB device safe, there's no need of any special software just for that purpose. All you need is vigilance and some know- how.
You need to get the vigilance by yourself.
You can get the know- how from- Virus or not virus
